दीर्घबाहुः सुतस्तस्य रघुस्तस्मादजायत
From him was born his son Dīrghabāhu; from him, Raghu was born.
राजा दशरथो नाम इक्ष्वाकुकुलनन्दनः
A king named Daśaratha, delight of the Ikṣvāku line, was born.
भरतो लक्ष्मणश्चैव शत्रुघ्नश्च महाबलः
Bharata, Lakṣmaṇa, and the mighty Śatrughna were his sons.
शत्रुघ्रेन पुरी तत्र मथुरा विनिवेशिता
By Śatrughna, the city of Mathurā was established there.
पालयामासतुस्तौ तु वैदेह्यौ मथुरां पुरीम्
Those two Vaidehas protected the city of Mathurā.
हिमवत्पर्वतस्यान्ते स्फीतौ जनपदौ तयोः
At the foot of Mount Himavat, their lands flourished.
चन्द्रकेतोस्तु विख्याता चन्द्रचक्रा पुरी शुभा
Of Candraketu, the famed and auspicious city was Candracakrā.
गान्धारविषये सिद्धे तयोः पुर्यो महात्मनोः
In the region of Gandhāra, the cities of those two great souls prospered.
पुष्करस्यापि वीरस्य विख्याता पुष्करावती
Even the renowned city of Puṣkarāvatī belonged to the heroic Puṣkara.
रामेण बद्धां सत्यार्थां महात्म्यात्तस्य धीमतः
It was built by Rāma, true to his word, through the greatness of that wise one.
आजानुबाहुः सुमुखः सिंहस्कन्धो महाभुजः
Long-armed, with a beautiful face, lion-shouldered, mighty of arm—
ऋक्सामयजुषां घोषो यो घोषश्च महास्वनः
He whose voice resounded like the chanting of Ṛk, Sāma, and Yajus, and whose shout was thunderous—
जनस्थाने वसन्कार्यं त्रिदशानां चकार सः
Dwelling in Janasthāna, he performed deeds for the gods.
सीतायाः पदमन्विच्छन्निजघान महायशाः
Seeking the path of Sītā, the illustrious one slew his foes.
अतिसूर्यं च वह्निं च रामो दाशरथिर्बभौ
Rāma, son of Daśaratha, shone brighter than the sun and fire.
कुशो लव इति ख्यातो तयोर्देशौ निबोधत
Kusha and Lava are famed; listen to the regions of those two.
रम्या निवेशिता तेन विन्ध्यपर्वतसानुषु
A delightful city was established by him on the slopes of the Vindhya mountains.
श्रावस्तिर्लोकविख्याता कुशवंशं निबोधत
Śrāvastī, renowned in the world, know it as belonging to the lineage of Kusha.
अतिथेरपि विख्यातो निषधो नाम पार्थिवः
Among guests, too, is famed a king named Niṣadha.
नभसः पुण्डरीकस्तु क्षेम धन्वा ततः स्मृतः
Of Nabhasa was Puṇḍarīka, and from him is remembered Kṣema Dhanvan.
आसीदहीनगुर्नाम देवानीकात्मजः प्रभुः
There was a lord named Ahīnaga, son of Devānīka.
दलस्तस्यात्मजश्चापि तस्माज्जज्ञे बलो नृपः
His son was Dala, and from him was born King Bala.
वज्रनाभः सुतस्तस्य शङ्खणस्तस्य चात्मजः
His son was Vajranābha, and Śaṅkhaṇa was his son.
व्युषिताश्वसुतश्चापि राजा विश्वसहः किल
And the son of Vyuṣitāśva was the king Viśvasaha, indeed.
पौष्यञ्जेश्च स वै शिष्यः स्मृतः प्राच्येषु सामसु
And Pauṣyañji is remembered as his disciple among the eastern Sāmas.
तस्मादधिगतो योगो याज्ञवल्क्येन धीमता
From him, the wise Yājñavalkya obtained the knowledge of yoga.
सुदर्शनस्तस्य सुतो ह्यग्निवर्मः सुदर्शनात्
Sudarshana's son was Agnivarma, and from Sudarshana,
मरुस्तु योगमास्थाय कलापग्राममास्थितः
Maru, having taken up yoga, resided in the village of Kalapa.
प्रभुसुतो मरोः पुत्रः सुसंधिस्तस्य चात्मजः
Prabhu's son was Maru; Maru's son was Susandhi, and his own son,
आसीत्सहस्वतः पुत्रो राजा विश्रुतवानिति
Sahasvata's son was the renowned king Viśrutavat.
