ययौ तेनाभ्यनुज्ञातः साकेतनगरं प्रति
Having been permitted by him, he set out for the city of Saketa.
न्यवेदयच्च वृत्तान्तं मुनेस्तेषां तथान्मनः
He reported the events and the thoughts of those sages.
अतः परमनुष्ठेयमब्रवीत्किं मयेति च

अभिनन्द्याशिषात्यर्थं लालयन्प्रशशंस ह
He joyfully praised him, blessing him and showing affection.
उपाक्रमत तं यज्ञे विधिवद्वेदपारगैः
He began that sacrifice according to the proper rites, with those well-versed in the Vedas.
सम्यगौर्ववसिष्ठाद्यैर्मुनिभिः संप्रवर्त्तितः
The sacrifice was properly conducted by the sages, beginning with Vasishtha.
सुसमृद्धं यथाशास्त्रं यज्ञे सर्वं बभूव ह
Everything in the sacrifice was performed excellently and according to the scriptures.
क्रमात्समापयामासुर्यजमानपुरस्सराः
In due order, those led by the sacrificer completed the ritual.
यथावद्दक्षिणां चैव ऋत्विजां प्रददौ तदा
Then, he gave the priests their due honorarium as prescribed.
तत्काङ्क्षितादभ्यधिकं प्रददौ वसु सर्वशः
He gave all the wealth, exceeding even what was desired.
क्षमापयामास गुरून्सदस्यान्प्रणिपत्य च
He sought forgiveness from the teachers and the assembly, bowing to them.
वारकीयाकदंबैश्च सूतमागधवन्दिभिः
With bards, minstrels, and heralds from Varaka and Kadamba,
दोधूयमानचमरो वालव्यजनराजितः
He was fanned with yak-tail whisks and honored with royal fans.
स गत्वा सरयूतीरं यथाशाश्त्रं यथाविधि
He went to the bank of the Sarayu, according to the scriptures and proper procedure.
एवं स्नात्वा सपत्नीकः सुहृद्भिर्ब्राह्मणैः सह
Thus, having bathed with his wives, together with friends and Brahmins,
मङ्गल्यैर्वेदघोषैश्च सह विप्रजनेरितैः
Accompanied by auspicious rites and the chanting of Vedic hymns performed by the Brahmins,
प्रविवेश पुरीं रम्यां हृष्टपुष्टजनायुतम्
He entered the delightful city, filled with joyful and prosperous people.
सिक्तसंमृष्टभूभागापणशोभासमन्विताम्
The ground was sprinkled and cleaned, adorned with beautiful shops.
स तत्रागरुधूपोत्थगन्धामोदितदिङ्मुखम्
There, the directions were fragrant with the scent rising from incense of agarwood.
लाजवर्षेण सानन्दं वीक्षमाणश्च नागरैः
He was joyfully showered with roasted rice, watched by the citizens.
संभाव्यमानः शनकैर्जगम स्वपुरं प्रति
Honored gradually, he proceeded toward his own palace.
सम्यक्संभावयामास सुहृदो ब्राह्मणानपि
He properly honored his friends and also the Brahmins.
सभायां राजशार्दूलो रेमे शक्र इवापरः
The tiger among kings delighted in the assembly, like another Indra.
सगरः सह भार्याभ्यां रेमे नृपवरोत्तमः
Sagara, the foremost among kings, enjoyed himself with his two wives.
वसिष्ठानुमते राजा यौवराज्ये ऽभ्यषेचयत्
With Vasiṣṭha's approval, the king consecrated his son as heir-apparent.
स प्रियो ऽभवदत्यर्थमुदारैश्च गुणैर्नृपः
The king became exceedingly beloved, endowed with noble qualities.
नवं च शुक्लपक्षादौशीतांशुमचिरोदितम्
At the beginning of the new bright fortnight, the newly risen moon shone.
भार्याभ्यामनुरूपाभ्यां रममाणो ऽवसच्चिरम्
Enjoying himself with his two suitable wives, he dwelled for a long time.
पालयामास वसुधां सशैलवनकाननाम्
He protected the earth, with its mountains, forests, and groves.
