शिखाभिरुर्वीशसुतानशेषतो ददाह सद्यः सुर विद्विषस्तान्
With his flames, he instantly consumed all the sons of the earth who were enemies of the gods.
सागरांस्तानशेषेण भस्मसादकरोत्स तान्
He reduced even the oceans and the rest to ashes.
जज्वलुः सहसा दावे तरवो नीरसा इव
Suddenly, the trees blazed like dry wood in a forest fire.
अन्योन्यमबुवन्देवा विस्मिता ऋषिभिः सह
The gods, together with the sages, looked at each other in astonishment.
दुरन्तः खलु लोके ऽस्मिन्नराणामसदात्मनाम्
Indeed, in this world, the fate of wicked men is hard to escape.
युगपद्विलयं प्राप्ताः सहसैव तृणाग्निवत्
All at once, they met their end, just like grass consumed by fire.
आजीवान्तमिमे हर्तु दिष्ट्या संक्षयमागताः
These beings, who took away others' lives, have now, by destiny, met their destruction.
इह कृत्वाशुभं कर्म कःपुमान्विन्दते सुखम्
Who, after committing evil deeds here, ever attains happiness?
ब्रह्मदण्डहताः पापा निरयं शाश्वतीः समाः
Those sinners struck by the rod of Brahma dwell in hell for countless ages.
दुरतश्च परित्याज्यमितरल्लोकनिन्दितम्
One should avoid from afar whatever is condemned by the world.
नाचरेत्कस्यचिद्द्रोहमनित्यं जीवनं यतः
Let no one commit harm against another, for life is fleeting.
संसारश्चातिनिस्सारस्तत्कथं विश्वसेद्बुधः
And since worldly existence is utterly devoid of essence, how could a wise person place trust in it?
मुनिक्रोधेन्धनीभूता विनेशुः सगरात्मजाः
The sons of Sagara were consumed by the fire of the sage’s wrath.
अवापुर्निरयं सद्यः सागरास्ते स्वकमभिः
Those Sagaras immediately attained hell as a result of their own actions.
क्षणेन लोकानखिलानुद्यतो दग्धुमञ्जसा
In an instant, he was prepared to burn all the worlds completely.
तुष्टुवुस्ते महात्मानं क्रोधाग्निशमनार्थिनः
Desiring to appease the fire of his anger, they praised that great-souled one.
इति श्रीब्रह्माण्डे महापुराणे वायुप्रोक्ते मध्यमाभागे तृतीय उपोद्धातपादे सगरचरितेसागराविनाशो नाम त्रिपञ्चशत्तमो ऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Brahmanda Mahapurana, as spoken by Vayu, in the middle section, in the third subsection, the fifty-third chapter named 'The Destruction of the Sagaras in the Sagara Narrative' is concluded.
नो चेदकाले लोको ऽयं सकलस्तेन दह्यते
If not restrained in time, this entire world would be burned by it.
क्षमस्व संहर क्रोधं नमस्ते विप्रपुङ्गव
Forgive, withdraw your anger; salutations to you, foremost of Brahmins.
तूर्णमेव क्षयं निन्ये क्रोधाग्निमतिभैरवम्
Very swiftly, the exceedingly terrible fire of anger brought destruction.
देवास्तपस्विनश्चैव बभूवुर्विगतज्वराः
The gods and ascetics then became free from distress.
अयोध्या मगमद्राजन्देवलोकाद्यदृच्छया
By chance, the king returned to Ayodhya from the world of the gods.
अर्घ्यपाद्यादिभिः सम्यक्पूजयामास शास्त्रतः
He duly worshipped according to scripture with offerings such as arghya and water for the feet.
नारदो राजशार्दूलमिदं वचनमब्रवीत्
Narada spoke these words to the tiger among kings.
ब्रह्मदण्डहताः सर्वे विनष्टा नृपसत्तम
All were destroyed, struck down by Brahma’s rod, O best of kings.
केनाप्य लक्षितः क्वापि नीतो विधिवशाद्दिवि
By some fate, one was noticed somewhere and taken to heaven.
प्रालभन्त न ते क्वापि तत्प्रवृत्तिं चिरान्नृप
For a long time, O king, they did not learn anything of his whereabouts.
सागरास्ते समारभ्य प्रचख्नुर्वसुधातलम्
Beginning from the Sagaras, they dug into the surface of the earth.
समीपे तस्य योगीन्द्रं कपिलं चमहामुनिम्
Nearby, they saw the great sage Kapila, lord of yogis.
कपिलं कोपयामासुरश्वहर्त्तायमित्यलम्
They angered Kapila, thinking him to be the thief of the horse.
