He said, 'All of you, most unrighteous ones, must depart, never to return.'
'Without the horse, truly, there is no coming back for you here.'
They said, 'The horse is still not seen today; what should we do?'
Nor is the steed seen, nor is there any news of it anywhere.
'Dividing the earth, let us enter the netherworld for the horse.'
They dug up the earth from the shore of the ocean on all sides.
And the beings cried out, seeing their agitation.
They extended a thousand yojanas of the earth into the ocean.
The princes saw the horse roaming in the netherworld.
Some laughed with satisfaction, and others danced with joy.
An old man was seen, seated on a lotus seat, his gaze fixed at the tip of his nose.
He was surrounded on all sides by his own radiance, overflowing.
His form was composed entirely of knowledge, illuminating all within by his inner light.
He had ascended to yoga, his mind properly merged in meditation.
Seeing him standing there, they discussed among themselves.
Then the ocean-dwellers, prompted by time, said, 'This is the horse-thief.'
Then, surrounding him, they said, 'This is the thief, there is no doubt about it.'
All of them, their wisdom destroyed, saw him sitting there like an ordinary man.
Then the sage, undisturbed in spirit, was assaulted by the disturbance of his meditation.
That formidable one trembled, shaken by those evil-minded ones.
From the oceanic depth of his body, the fire of anger arose.
It blazed forth, kindled by the touch of outrage and wrath.
Then, O King, his eyes became intensely red for a moment.
Then, as his eyes rolled upward, he looked at the princes.
From his eyes, in his anger, flames of fire suddenly burst forth.
Thick with smoke and blazing, they repeatedly emitted showers of sparks.
Fierce tongues of flame, like the gaping mouths of serpents, issued from his eyes.
O great king, the fire of wrath spread its flames, filling all directions and the sky.
He burned them all, covering even the expanse of the heavens.
The world became utterly distressed, enveloped by the violently stirred dust of the earth.
