When Vasiṣṭha departed, King Sagara was filled with joy in his heart.
Accompanied by his two wives, endowed with beauty, character, and virtues,
Sumati and Keśinī, both with blooming lotus-like faces,
Rich with dark, curled hair and adorned with all ornaments,
His beloved was always near him, devoted to his pleasure and welfare.
And the king, confident in his abundance of wealth,
Among other kings on earth, the title 'king' did not exist.
Even a little righteousness, as it always arises in the mind,
With a mind free from greed, he pursued wealth without oppressing righteousness.
For that very purpose, O king, he also fulfilled desire without oppressing them.
Thus ends the fifty-ninth chapter named 'The Conquest of the Directions by Sagara' in the third section, Upoddhāta, of the middle part of the glorious Brahmāṇḍa Mahāpurāṇa, as spoken by Vāyu.
He governed the land of seven continents, manifesting righteousness itself.
Having established it according to proper order, he protected it, his senses undisturbed.
The classes, too, in accordance with their nature, likewise in their respective duties, step by step.
While that king ruled the earth, all classes flourished.
Among them were countless peoples, filled with those of the four classes.
The regions flourished with abundant dwellings while that king ruled.
Among all classes of people, undertakings yielded fruitful results.
At that time, people's actions were endowed with the aims of human life.
They cherished affection for one another and were devoted to the king.
Among the people, none was greedy or miserable.
They always bowed to their teachers, being devoted to true knowledge.
By nature, they avoided association with the wicked and were intent on righteousness.
Thus, Subāhu and others possessed the earth, won by their own prowess.
The entire land was always rich in crops, especially rice.
While that tiger among kings governed the realms, such was the state.
Seated on jewel-encrusted seats, surrounded by the gods, the assembly shone like Indra's court in heaven, radiant with the brilliance of gems.
Desiring to see the king, the eager rulers, along with their sons, repeatedly requested the doorkeepers, while the lord of men lingered long in the inner chambers.
The feet of that ruler of the earth shone, adorned with anklets.
His assembly gleamed with jewels, like the moon and sun shining in a cave.
