तत्पादौ संस्पृशन्मूर्ध्ना प्रणाममकरोत्तदा
Then, touching her feet with his head, he offered his obeisance.
ससंभ्रमं समुत्थाय पर्यष्वजत चात्मजम्
She, rising up with excitement, embraced her son.
स तां संभाव्य कथया तत्र स्थित्वा चिरादिव
Honoring her, he spoke with her, remaining there as if after a long time.
ततः सानुचरो राजा श्वेतव्यजनवीजितः
Then the king, attended by his followers and fanned with a white chowrie,
संप्रविश्य सभां दिव्यामनेकनृपसेविताम्
Entered the divine assembly hall, served by many kings.
सिंहासने शुभे दिव्ये निषसाद नरेश्वरः
The lord of men sat upon a beautiful, divine throne.
नानाविधाः कथाः कुर्वन्स तत्र नृपसत्तमः
There, the best of kings engaged in various kinds of conversations.
प्रतिज्ञां पालयित्वैवं जितदिङ्मण्डलो नृपः
Thus, having kept his vow, the king who conquered all directions,
स्वप्रभावजिताशेषवैरिर्दिङ्मण्डलाधिपः
The lord of the quarters, who had vanquished all enemies by his own power,
स्वर्यातस्य पितुः पूर्वं परिभावममर्षितः
Was unable to endure the dishonor previously suffered by his father who had ascended to heaven.
सप्तद्वीपाब्धिनगरग्रामायतनमालिनीम्
Adorned with cities, villages, and shrines upon the ocean and the seven islands,
एवं गच्छति काले च वसिष्ठो भगवानृषिः
In this way, as time passed, the venerable sage Vasiṣṭha arrived.
तमायान्तमतिप्रेक्ष्य मुनिवर्यं ससंभ्रमः
Seeing that eminent sage approaching, he became somewhat anxious.
अर्ध्यपाद्यादिभिः सम्यक्पूजयित्वा महामतिः
With great wisdom, he duly honored him with offerings of water for washing the feet and hands, and other rites.
आशीर्भिर्वर्द्धयित्वा तं वसिष्ठः सगरं तदा
Then Vasiṣṭha blessed Sagara with words of benediction.
उपाविशत्ततो राजा काञ्चने परमासने
After that, the king sat down upon a most excellent golden seat.
आपवस्तुनृपश्रेष्ठमुपासीनमुपह्वरे
The best of kings, having purified himself, sat down in the secluded place.
कुशलं ननु ते राजन्वाह्येष्वाभ्यन्तरेषु च
‘Is all well with you, O king, both outside and within your realm?’
दिष्ट्या च विजिताः सर्वे समग्रबलवाहनाः
‘By good fortune, all those with their full armies and forces have been conquered.’
दिष्ट्यारूढप्रतिज्ञेन मम मानयता वचः
‘By good fortune, you have fulfilled your vow and honored my words.’
तान्विजित्येतराञ्जेतुं पुनर्दिग्विजयेच्छया
‘Having conquered them, you desire once more to subdue others, wishing for conquest in all directions.’
जितदिङ्मण्डलं भूयः श्रुत्वा त्वां नगरस्थितम्
‘Having heard that you, who have subdued all quarters, are now residing in the city again—’
वसिष्ठेनैवमुक्तस्तु सगरस्तालजङ्घजित्
Thus addressed by Vasiṣṭha, Sagara, conqueror of Tāla and Jaṅgha, replied:
कुशलं ननु सर्वत्र महर्षे नात्र संशयः
‘Indeed, all is well everywhere, great sage; there is no doubt of this.’
भवान्ध्यायति कल्याणं मनसा यस्य संततम्
‘You constantly contemplate auspiciousness for me in your mind.’
भवतानुगृहीतो ऽस्मि कृतार्थश्चाधुना कृतः
‘I am favored by you and now my purpose has been fulfilled.’
यन्मह्यमाह भगवान्विपक्षविजयादिकम्
‘Whatever the venerable one has said to me, regarding the conquest of enemies and so forth—’
भवत्प्रसादतः सर्वं मन्ये प्राप्तं महीक्षिताम्
‘By your grace, I consider all this—rule over the earth—to have been attained.’
अनल्पी कुरुते फल्यं यन्मे व्यवसितं भवान्
You accomplish what I have resolved, though it is not insignificant in its fruit.
एवं संभावितः सम्यक्सगेरण महामुनिः
Thus, the great sage Sagara was properly honored.
