करैश्च स नृपान्सर्वांश्चक्रे संकेतगानपि
With tribute, he made all the kings his allies.
अनुजज्ञे नरपतिः समस्ताननुयायिनः
The king permitted all his followers to accompany him.
शनैरपीडयन्देशान्स्वराज्यमुपजग्मिवान्
Gradually traversing the lands, he attained his own kingdom.
नानाजनपदैस्तूर्ममयोध्यां समुपागमत्
With throngs from various regions, he approached Ayodhyā.
नगरीं तामलञ्चक्रे महोत्सवसमुत्सुकः
Eager for a great festival, he adorned that city.
सिक्तसंमृष्टभूभागा पूर्णकुम्भशतावृता
The ground was sprinkled and swept, surrounded by hundreds of full pots.
सर्वत्रागरुधूपाञढ्या विचित्रकुसुमोज्ज्वला
Everywhere was filled with fragrant incense and bright with various flowers.
प्रसूनलाजवर्षैश्च स्वलङ्कृतमहापथा
The main roads were beautifully decorated, with showers of flowers and rice grains.
संबूजिताशेषवास्तुदेवतागृहमालिनी
All the shrines of the household deities were festooned and honored.
पौरजानपदैर्त्दृष्टैः सर्वतः समलङ्कृता
Adorned on all sides by the city and country folk who had gathered.
वारकाताकदबैश्च नगरीभिश्च सवृताः
Surrounded by women with pitchers and lamps, as well as by the city’s maidens.
स तैः समेत्य नृपतिर्लब्धाशीर्वाद सक्त्क्रियः
Meeting with them, the king received blessings and was duly honored.
नानावादित्रसंघोषमिश्रेण मधुरेण च
Accompanied by the sweet sound of many kinds of musical instruments,
आनन्दयन्प्रजाः सर्वाः प्रविवेश पुरोत्तमम्
Delighting all the people, he entered the foremost city.
संस्तूयमानः सुभृशं सूतमागधवन्दिभिः
He was highly praised by charioteers, bards, and panegyrists.
कलतालरवोन्मिश्रवीणावेणुतलस्वनैः
With the sounds of lutes, cymbals, vīṇās, and flutes mingling together,
अन्वीयमानो विलसच्छ्वेतच्छत्रविराजितः
He was followed, shining beneath a resplendent white parasol.
पुरीमयोध्यामविशत्स्वपुरीमिव वासवः
He entered Ayodhyā, the city, as Indra would his own city.
जगाम मध्येनगरं गृहं श्रीमदलङ्कृतम्
He went through the middle of the city to a splendidly adorned house.
प्रविवेश गृहं मातुर्हृष्टपुष्टजनायुतम्
He entered his mother’s house, filled with joyful and prosperous people.
तत्पादौ संस्पृशन्मूर्ध्ना प्रणाममकरोत्तदा
Then, touching her feet with his head, he offered his obeisance.
ससंभ्रमं समुत्थाय पर्यष्वजत चात्मजम्
She, rising up with excitement, embraced her son.
स तां संभाव्य कथया तत्र स्थित्वा चिरादिव
Honoring her, he spoke with her, remaining there as if after a long time.
ततः सानुचरो राजा श्वेतव्यजनवीजितः
Then the king, attended by his followers and fanned with a white chowrie,
संप्रविश्य सभां दिव्यामनेकनृपसेविताम्
Entered the divine assembly hall, served by many kings.
सिंहासने शुभे दिव्ये निषसाद नरेश्वरः
The lord of men sat upon a beautiful, divine throne.
नानाविधाः कथाः कुर्वन्स तत्र नृपसत्तमः
There, the best of kings engaged in various kinds of conversations.
प्रतिज्ञां पालयित्वैवं जितदिङ्मण्डलो नृपः
Thus, having kept his vow, the king who conquered all directions,
स्वप्रभावजिताशेषवैरिर्दिङ्मण्डलाधिपः
The lord of the quarters, who had vanquished all enemies by his own power,
स्वर्यातस्य पितुः पूर्वं परिभावममर्षितः
Was unable to endure the dishonor previously suffered by his father who had ascended to heaven.
