Then, from his lower part, asuras were born as his sons.
He cast off that body by which the gods had been created.
Because it was full of darkness, it became known as the night of threefold duration.
Having created the asuras, then he assumed another body.
Then he united with that, the mind-born, which was dear to the Lord.
Because, as he was shining, they were born from him, they are called gods.
Therefore, from that divine body, the deities were born.
That body, having been cast off by him, then became the day.
Having created the gods, then he assumed another body.
Thinking of them as his sons, the Lord reflected, like a father.
Therefore, your ancestors are called the gods; their status as ancestors is thus remembered among them.
From that, her body was struck down, and immediately the twilight was born.
Of the two, the ancestral form that was between them is indeed the greater.
They worship that form which exists in the interval between dawn and dusk.
Then, in another form, Brahma again manifested himself from his own body.
By his mind, his sons were born; from his creation, beings came forth.
Having created beings again, he then cast off his own form.
Therefore, beings are delighted at the appearance of moonlight.
Immediately, night, day, twilight, and moonlight were born.
Night, whose essence is darkness, indeed governs over them.
Because their birth is during the day, they are powerful by day.
Those born at night from the vital breaths are unconquerable at night, therefore they are so.
Of the ancestors and humans, those who have passed away and gone on,
Moonlight, night, day, and twilight—these four are indeed those.
Having created these waters, he then created the gods, the asuras, and humans.
Having abandoned that moonlight, the Lord then attained another form.
Then, in darkness, he created other beings afflicted by hunger.
Those among them who said, 'Let us protect these waters,'
Those who said, 'We will dry up the waters,' were seen to oppose each other.
The root 'rakṣ' is understood in the sense of protection and preservation.
