अद्य प्रभृति वत्सास्मिंल्लोके श्रेष्ठतमो भव
From this day forth, child, be the very best in this world.
तत्सर्वं क्रमतो भाव्यं समा बह्वीस्त्वया विभो
All that must be accomplished, O mighty one, will come to pass for you in due order, and for many years.
योगश्च सादनीयो वै शत्रूणां निग्रहस्तथा
Yoga must be practiced, and likewise the subduing of enemies.
ज्ञानेन यशसा वापि सर्वश्रेष्ठतमो भवान्
By knowledge or by fame, you will become the very best of all.
तपश्चर यथाकालं तेन सिद्धिः करस्थिता
Practice austerity at the proper time; by that, success will be in your grasp.
आलिङ्ग्य गाढं रासेण मैत्रीं तस्य चकार ह
Embracing him tightly, Rāsa established friendship with him.
कृष्णाज्ञया महाभागौ बभूवतुररिन्दम
By Kṛṣṇa’s command, the two illustrious ones became subduers of enemies.
उभाभ्यां च वरं प्रादात्प्रसन्नास्या मुदान्विता
With a smiling face, filled with joy, she granted a boon to both of them.
मद्भक्तौ च विशेषेण भवन्तौ भवतां सुतौ
Especially in devotion to me, you two shall become sons to you.
सिद्धिं प्रयातु ततसर्वं मत्प्रसादाद्धि तस्य तु
Then, by my grace, may all success come to him.
जन्मान्त रसहस्रेषु येषुयेषु व्रजाम्यहम्
In thousands of lifetimes and delights, I enter into them.
अभेदेन च पश्यामि कृष्णौ चापि भवौ तथा
And I see Kṛṣṇa and Bhava as non-different.
चिरञ्जीवी भवाशु त्वं प्रसादान्मम सुव्रत
By my grace, O virtuous one, may you live long.
प्रणतं भार्गवेन्द्रं तु वरार्हं जगदीश्वरः
The Lord of the universe, worthy of granting boons, addressed the bowed Bhargava.
स भविष्यति कार्त्स्येन सत्यमुक्तं न चान्यथा
He shall indeed become so in every way; this is truly spoken and will not be otherwise.
न को ऽपि भवताद्वत्स तेजस्वी च भवत्परः
No one shall be as radiant as you, dear one, nor surpass you in brilliance.
गोलोकं प्रययौ युक्तः श्रीदाम्ना चापि राधया
He departed to Goloka, accompanied by Śrīdāmā and also by Rādhā.
संपूज्य चाभिवाद्याथ प्रदक्षिणमुपा क्रमीत्
Having worshipped and offered obeisance, he then began to circumambulate.
अकृतव्रणसंयुक्तो निश्चक्राम गृहान्तरात्
Joined by Akṛtavraṇa, he exited from within the house.
नमस्कृतो ययौ राजन्स्वगृहं परया मुदा
Having been saluted, O King, he went to his own house with great joy.
उपोद्धातपादे भार्गवचरिते त्रिचत्वारिंशत्तमो ऽध्यायः
This is the forty-third chapter in the section on Bhārgava's deeds, in the Upoddhāta portion.
समाजगाम धर्मात्माकृतव्रणसमन्वितः
The righteous-souled one, accompanied by Akṛtavraṇa, arrived.
व्रजन्तं भार्गवं मार्गे प्राणरक्षणतत्पराः
Those intent on protecting their lives saw Bhārgava as he walked along the path.
शान्तसत्त्वसमाकीर्णं वेदध्त्रनिनिनादितम्
It was filled with those of peaceful nature and resounded with the chanting of the Vedas.
समं च रन्ति संहृष्टा भयं त्यक्त्वा सुदूरतः
Together, rejoicing, they abandoned fear from afar.
उन्नदन्ति मयूराश्च नृत्यन्ति च महीपने
Peacocks cried out and danced, O King.
जलाञ्जलीन्प्रक्षिपद्भिः क्रियते भूर्चलाविला
The earth became muddy and trembled as people poured handfuls of water.
अभ्यस्यन्ते मुदा युक्तैर्ब्रह्मचर्यव्रते स्थितैः
Those established in the vow of celibacy practiced with joy and discipline.
प्रविवेश शनै राजन्नकृतव्रणसंयुतः
O King, accompanied by Akṛtavraṇa, he entered slowly.
द्विजैश्च सत्कृतो रामः परं हर्षमुपागतः
Rāma, honored by the twice-born, experienced supreme joy.
