Then, steeds, elephants, and men, their limbs severed, fell by the hundreds.

Crying 'O father, O mother!' as they murmured, they were reduced to ashes, thoroughly crushed at that time.

He began to fight, resembling Death at the end of time.

He undertook to conquer Bhārgava's lord in battle.
Just as a cloud, O hero, rains upon the mountain,
He seized his divine bow and unleashed a shower of arrows in the same way.

They fought a battle unmatched, tumultuous, and hair-raising.
For the destruction of Bhārgava, all the mighty bearers of weapons and missiles gathered.

Then Rāma, seeing the destruction of the world, recalled the words of the Lord of the universe.
Thus resolved, the mighty lord, with both eyes, beheld that pair of missiles.

Thus, displaying his nature among men, he always performs all auspicious deeds.
So Rāma, renowned for his power, having subdued that pair of missiles,
He took a pair of feathered arrows from his quiver, placed them on the shaft, and set them upon the bowstring.
That king, Kṛttakarṇa, great-souled, conqueror of all the world's heroes,
For a moment, the body of the lord of the earth became pale and devoid of strength.

Again, the king, eyes closed in meditation, reflected upon the gift—the lamp of the Ātreya lineage.
