तरन्ति चान्यानपि तारयन्ति हि भवौषधं नाम सुधा तवेश
They cross over and lead others across as well; O Lord, Your nectar is called the medicine for worldly existence.
आराधयं नाथ भवानभिज्ञः किं ते ह विज्ञाप्यमिहास्ति लोके
O Master, having worshipped You, one becomes wise; what, then, remains to be made known in this world?
उवाचागाधया वाचा मोहयन्निव मायया
He spoke with profound words, as if bewildering by his illusion.
कवचस्य स्तवस्यापि प्रभावादवधारय
Discern the power of the armor and the hymn as well.
साधयित्वा पितुर्वैरं कुरु निःक्षत्रियां महीम्
Having accomplished your father's vengeance, make the earth devoid of Kshatriyas.
कृतकार्यो द्विजश्रेष्ट तं समापय मानद
O best of twice-born, having fulfilled your task, complete it, O giver of honor.
चरिष्यति यथा कालं कर्त्ता हर्त्ता स्वयं प्रभुः
He will act as time dictates, being himself the creator and destroyer, the Lord.
रामो नाम भविष्यामि चतुर्व्यूहः सनातनः
I shall become Rama, the eternal fourfold manifestation.
तदा कौशिकयज्ञं तु साधयित्वा सलक्ष्मणः
Then, having accomplished the Kauśika sacrifice together with Lakshmana,
तत्रेशचापं निर्भज्य परिणीय विदेहजाम्
There, having broken the Lord's bow and married the daughter of Videha,
पश्यतोंऽतर्दधे तत्र रामस्य मुमहात्मनः
While Rama, the great soul, was watching, He vanished there.
उपोद्धातपादे भर्गवचरिते सप्तत्रिंशत्तमो ऽध्यायः
Chapter thirty-seven in the Bhargava narrative, in the introductory section.
समुद्रिक्तमथात्मानं मेने कृष्णानुभावतः
Then, due to Krishna's influence, he considered himself exalted.
समायातो भार्गवो ऽसीपुरीं महिष्मतीं प्रति
Bhargava arrived at the city of Asipura, towards Mahishmati.
पुनाति दर्शनादेव प्राणिनः पापिनो ह्यपि
He purifies even sinful beings merely by his sight.
त्रिपुरस्य विनाशाय कृतो यत्नो महीपते

सदृष्ट्वा नर्मदां भूप भर्गवः कुलनन्दनः
O king, having seen the Narmadā, Bhārgava, the delight of his lineage,
नमो ऽस्तु नर्मदे तुभ्यं हरदेहसमुद्भवे
Salutations to you, O Narmadā, born from the body of Hara.
इत्येवं स नमस्कृत्य नर्मदां पापनाशिनीम्
Thus, having bowed to Narmadā, the destroyer of sins,
दूत राजात्वया वाच्यो यदहं वच्मि ते ऽनघ
Messenger, you must say to the king what I now speak to you, O sinless one:
यद्बलं तु समाश्रित्य जमदग्निमुनिं नृपः
Relying on whatever strength the king has from the sage Jamadagni,
शीघ्रं निर्गच्छ मन्दात्मन्युद्धं रामाय देहि तत्
Let him quickly come out, O slow-minded one, and give battle to Rāma.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा राजानं श्रुत्वा तस्य वचस्तथा
Having thus spoken, and the king having heard his words accordingly,
तेनैवमुक्तो दूतस्तु गतो हैहयभूपतिम्
Thus addressed, the messenger went to the king of the Haihayas.
स राजात्रेयभक्तस्तु महाबलपराक्रमः
That king, devoted to Atri's descendant, possessed great strength and valor.
मया भुजबलेनैव दत्तदत्तेन मेदिनी
By the power of my own arms alone, with Dattadatta, I have conquered the earth.
तद्बलं मयि वर्त्तेत युद्धं दास्ये तवाधुना
If that strength abides in me, I will now give you battle.
सेनाध्यक्षं समाहूय प्रोवाच वदतां वरः
Calling the commander of the army, the foremost of speakers said:
योत्स्ये रामेण भृगुणा विलंबो मा भवत्विति
I will fight with Rāma, the son of Bhṛgu; let there be no delay.
सैन्यं सज्जं विधायाशु चतुरङ्ग न्यवेदयत्
Having swiftly made the fourfold army ready, he reported it.
