तच्छूत्वा विस्मयाविष्टो भवच्छरणमागतः
Hearing that, I was filled with wonder and came to take refuge in you.
शिवेन दत्तं कवच मम साधयतो गुरो
The armor given to me by Śiva, O teacher, I have been practicing.
न च सिद्धिमवाप्तो ऽहं तन्मे त्वं कृपया वद
But I have not attained success; please tell me the reason out of compassion.
क्षणं ध्यात्वा महाराज मृगोक्तं ज्ञातवान् हृदा
The great king, after meditating for a moment, understood in his heart what the deer had said.
विचार्याश्वासयामास भार्गवः स्ववचोमृतैः
Bhārgava, after considering, comforted him with his own nectar-like words.
उपोद्धातपादे भार्गवच रिते पञ्चत्रिंशत्तमो ऽध्यायः
In the section of introduction, except for Bhārgava's words, this is the thirty-fifth chapter.
उवाच भार्गवं राममगस्त्यः कुंभसंभवः
Agastya, born from the pot, spoke to Bhārgava Rāma.
मन्त्रस्य सिद्धिं येन त्वं शीघ्रमेव समाप्नुयाः
By which you may quickly attain the accomplishment of the mantra.
यो यतेत नरस्तस्य सिद्धिर्भवति सत्वरम्
For the man who strives, accomplishment comes swiftly to him.
पातालं नागराचैन्द्रैः शोभितं परया मुदा
Pātāla, adorned by the Nāgas and Indras, shines with supreme joy.
सनकाद्या नारदश्च गौतमो जाजलिःक्रतुः
Sanaka and others, Nārada, Gautama, Jājali, and Kratu,
एते ऽन्ये च महासिद्धा वात्स्यायनमुखा द्विज
These and other great siddhas, headed by Vātsyāyana, O twice-born,
तं नमस्कृत्य नागैन्द्रैः सह सिद्धैर्महात्मभिः
Having bowed to him, together with the Nāga Indras and the great-souled siddhas,
येयं भूमिर्महाभाग भूतधात्री स्वरूपिणी
This earth, O greatly fortunate one, is the bearer of beings and has her own form.
यद्यत्पृच्छति सा भूमिः शेषं साक्षान्महीधरम्
Whatever that earth asks, she directly questions Mahīdhara, Śeṣa.
मया तत्र श्रुतं वत्स कृष्णप्रेमामृतं शुभम्
There, O child, I heard the auspicious nectar of love for Kṛṣṇa.
वाराहाद्यवताराणां चरितं पापनाशनम्
The deeds of the incarnations beginning with Varaha destroy sin.
श्रुत्वा सर्वं धरा वत्स प्रत्दृष्टा तं धराधरम्
Having heard everything, O child, the earth beheld that lord of the earth.
अलङ्कृतं जन्म पुंसामपि नन्दव्रजौकसाम्
Even the birth of men, adorned, is among the dwellers of Nanda's Vraja.
जयोपाधिनियुक्तानि संति नामान्यनेकशः
There are many names, each associated with the title of victory.
तत्तानि ब्रूहि नामानि वासुदेवस्य वासुके
Tell me those names of Vasudeva, O Vasuki.
वसुंधरे वरारोहे जनानामस्ति मुक्तिदम्
O beautiful one, on the earth, there is that which grants liberation to people.
महापातककोटिघ्न सर्वतीर्थफलप्रदम्
It destroys millions of great sins and bestows the fruits of all sacred places.
शृणु देवि प्रवक्ष्यामि नाम्नामष्टोतरं शतम्
Listen, O goddess, I will declare the one hundred and eight names.
एकावृत्त्या तु कृष्णस्य नामैकं तत्प्रयच्छति
With a single recitation, one grants a single name of Krishna.
नाम्नामष्टोत्तरशतस्याहमेव ऋषिः प्रिये
Of the one hundred and eight names, I myself am the seer, dear one.
श्रीकृष्णः कमलानाथो वासुदेवः सनातनः
Sri Krishna, lord of lotuses, Vasudeva, eternal.
श्रीवत्सकौस्तभधरो यशोदावत्सलो हरिः
Bearer of Srivatsa and Kaustubha, beloved of Yashoda, Hari.
देवकीनन्दनः श्रीशो नन्दगोपप्रियात्मजः
Son of Devaki, lord of fortune, beloved son of Nanda Gopa.
पूतनाजीवितहरः शकटासुरभञ्जनः
Destroyer of Putana's life, breaker of the demon Shakata.
