चतुर्द्वारसमायुक्तं शोभितं मणिवेदिभिः
Adorned with four gates, resplendent with jeweled platforms.
नानाचित्रविचित्रैश्च शोभितैः सुमनोहरैः
Decorated with various marvelous and delightful designs.
ददर्शरामो धर्मात्मा विचित्रमिव संगतः
Rama, righteous in spirit, saw it assembled as if wondrous.
महाकरालदन्तास्यौ विकृतारक्तलोचनौ
With enormous, fierce teeth and mouths, distorted, blood-red eyes.
विभूतिभूषिताङ्गौ च व्याघ्रचर्मांबरौ च तौ
Their bodies adorned with sacred ashes, both clad in tiger skins.
तौ दृष्ट्वा मनसा भीतः किञ्चिदाह विनीतवत्
Seeing them, he became fearful in mind and spoke a little, humbly.
ईश्वराज्ञां समादाय मामथाज्ञप्तुमर्हथ
Having received the command of the Lord, you ought to inform me.
प्रवेष्टुमाज्ञां ददतुरीश्वरानुचरौ च तौ
Those two attendants of the Lord granted permission to enter.
तत्रातिरम्यां सिद्धौघैः समाकीर्णां सभां द्विजः
There, the assembly was exceedingly charming, filled with hosts of siddhas.
तत्रापश्यच्छिवं शान्तं त्रिनेत्रं चन्द्रशेखरम्
There he saw Shiva, serene, three-eyed, crowned with the moon.
विभूतिभूषिताङ्गं च नागयज्ञोपवीतिनम्
His body adorned with sacred ashes, wearing a serpent as sacred thread.
पञ्चाननं दशभुजं भक्तानुग्रहविग्रहम्
Five-faced, ten-armed, the embodiment of grace to devotees.
स्तूयमानं च योकीन्द्रैः प्रमथप्रकरैर्मुदा
Praised joyfully by the leaders of yogis and hosts of Pramathas.
मूर्ध्ना नमाम तं दृष्ट्वा रामः परमया मुदा
Seeing him, Rama bowed his head with supreme joy.
नन्दीश्वरं महाकालं वीरभद्रं च तत्पुरः
Nandishvara, Mahakala, and Virabhadra stood before him.
स्तोतुं प्रचक्रमे विद्वान्गिरा गद्गदया विभुम्
The wise one began to praise the Lord with faltering speech.
भुजङ्गभूषणं चोग्रं नृकपालस्रगुज्ज्वलम्
Fierce, adorned with serpents, shining with a garland of human skulls.
ब्रह्मादिरूपधृग्ज्येष्ठस्तं त्वां वेद कृपार्णवम्
The Vedas know you as the ocean of compassion, the eldest, assuming forms of Brahma and others.
ज्ञानबुद्ध्योरसाध्यं च निराकारं नमाम्यहम्
I bow to the formless one, unattainable by knowledge or intellect.
न यं विदुर्यथातत्त्वं तं नमामि परात्परम्
I bow to that supreme beyond the supreme, whom none truly knows as he is.
लीयन्ते च पुनर्यस्मिंस्तं नमामि जगन्मयम्
I bow to him in whom all things dissolve and from whom they arise, the essence of the universe.
सोर्द्ध्वलोकं सपातालं तं नमामि हरं परम्
I bow to the supreme Hara, who encompasses the upper worlds and the nether regions.
मूर्त्तयो ऽष्टौ जगत्पूज्यास्तं यज्ञं प्रणमाम्यहम्
I bow to that sacrifice, whose eight forms are revered throughout the world.
रर्त्ता पुना रुद्रवपुस्तथान्ते तं कालरूपं शरणं प्रपद्ये
At creation, again as Rudra's form, and at the end, I seek refuge in him, the embodiment of time.
उत्थाप्य तं वामकरेण लीलया दध्रे तदा मूर्ध्नि करं कृपार्णवः
Then, raising him up with his left hand in play, the ocean of compassion placed his hand upon his head.
उवाच वामामभिवीक्ष्य चाप्युमां कृपार्द्रदृष्ट्याखिलकामपूरकः
Looking kindly upon Uma and me with eyes full of compassion, he spoke, fulfilling every desire.
विनिर्द्दिशाहं तव भक्तिभावतः प्रीतः प्रदद्यां भवतो मनोगतम्
Pleased by your devotion, I grant you, as you desire, whatever is in your mind.
पुनश्च नत्वा विबुधां पति गुरुं कृपासमुद्रं समुवाच सत्वरम्
Again, bowing swiftly, I addressed the lord of the gods, the ocean of mercy, my revered teacher.
रामो नाम जगद्वन्द्यं त्वामहं शरणं गतः
I am Rama, honored by the world; I have come to you for refuge.
तं प्रसाधय विश्वेश वाञ्छितं काममेव मे
O Lord of the universe, fulfill for me the desire I long for.
