स यद्वदिष्यति विभुस्तत्कर्त्ता नात्र संशयः
Whatever the Lord commands, that will be done—of this there is no doubt.
जगाम ब्रह्मणो लोकमगम्यं प्राकृतैर्जनैः
He went to the world of Brahma, inaccessible to ordinary beings.
स्वर्णप्राकारसंयुक्तं मणिस्तंभैर्विमूषितम्
It was surrounded by walls of gold and adorned with columns of jewels.
रत्नसिंहासने रम्ये रत्नभूषणभूषितम्
On a beautiful throne of gems, embellished with jeweled ornaments.
विद्याधरीणां नृत्यं च पश्यन्तं सस्मितं मुदा
He saw the smiling Brahma, joyfully watching the dance of the Vidyadharis.
परिपूर्णतमं ब्रह्म ध्यायतं यतमानसम्
Brahma, fully complete, was absorbed in meditation with concentrated mind.
दृष्ट्वा तमव्ययं भक्त्या प्रणनाम भृगूद्वहः
Seeing that imperishable one, the best of Bhrigus bowed with devotion.
पप्रच्छ कुशलं वत्स कथमागमनं कृथाः
He asked, 'Are you well, child? For what reason have you come?'
वृत्तान्तं कार्त्तवीर्यस्य पितुः स्वस्य महात्मनः
He told the story of Kartavirya, his own great-souled father.
उवाच रामं धर्मिष्ठं परिणामसुखावहम्
He spoke to Rama, the righteous one, who brings happiness through transformation.
सृष्टि रेषा भगवतः संभवेत्कृपया बटो
O child, this creation comes into being by the grace of the Blessed Lord.
तन्नाशकारिणी चैव प्रतिज्ञा भवता कृता
And the vow to destroy it has been made by you.
एकस्य राज्ञो दोषेण पितुः परिभवेन च
Because of the fault of a single king and the disrespect shown to his father,
आविर्भूता तिरोभूता हरेरेव पुनः पुनः
The manifestation and disappearance of Hari occur again and again.
यद्वायासेन ते कार्यसिद्धिर्भवितुमर्हति
Or, through your effort, the accomplishment of your task is indeed possible.
पृथिव्यां बहवो भूपाः संति शङ्करकिङ्कराः
On earth, there are many kings who are servants of Śaṅkara.
बिभ्रतः कवचान्यङ्गे शक्तीश्चापि दुरासदाः
Wearing armor on their bodies, and bearing formidable spears.
उपाये तु समारब्धे सर्वे सिध्यन्त्युपक्रमाः
But when the right means are undertaken, all undertakings succeed.
दुर्ल्लङ्घ्यं वैष्णवं तेजः शिवशक्तिर्विजेष्यति
The Vaiṣṇava power is difficult to overcome; Śiva's energy will prevail.
यथाकथं च विज्ञाप्य शङ्करं लभदुर्लभम्
By some means, inform Śaṅkara, who is difficult to obtain.
दिव्यपाशुपतं चापि दास्यत्येव न संशयः
He will surely grant the divine Pāśupata weapon; there is no doubt.
उपोद्धातपादे भार्गवचरिते एकत्रिंशत्तमो ऽध्यायः
In the introductory section of the Bhārgava narrative, Chapter Thirty-One.
प्रसन्नचेताः सुभृशं शिवलोकं जगाम ह
With a mind greatly pleased, he went to the realm of Śiva.
अथनिर्वचनीयं च योगिगम्यं परात्परम्
Then, that which is indescribable, accessible to yogis, the supreme beyond the supreme,
यदधो ध्रुवलोकश्च सर्वलोकपरस्तु सः
That which is below is the Dhruva realm, but above all worlds is that.
उपमानेन रहितं नानाकौतुकसंयुतम्
Devoid of comparison, yet filled with various wonders.
कोटिकल्पतपः पुण्याः शान्ता निर्मत्सरा जनाः
People there are blessed by countless aeons of austerity, peaceful and free from envy.
योगेन योगिना सृष्टं स्वेच्छया शङ्करेण हि
Created by Śaṅkara himself through yoga, by his own will, for yogis.
सरोवरशतैर्दिव्यैः पद्मरागविराजितैः
With hundreds of divine lakes adorned with lotus gems.
सुवर्णरत्नरचितप्राकारेण समावृतम्
Surrounded by walls constructed of gold and precious stones.
