उत्थायास्मै ददुश्चापि सत्कृत्य परमासनम्
Rising up, they respectfully offered him the highest seat.
पप्रच्छ किमिदं वृत्तं तत्सर्वं ते न्यवेदयन्
He asked, 'What has happened?' and they told him everything.
संजीविन्या विनया तं सिषेच प्रोच्चरन्निदम्
With humility, Saṃjīvinī sprinkled him, uttering these words.
तेनासौ जीवताच्छीघ्रं प्रसुप्त इवचोत्थितः
By her action, he quickly revived, as if waking from sleep.
समुत्तस्थावथार्चीकः साक्षाद्ग्ररुरिवापरः
Then Arcika rose up, like another Guru appearing before them.
ननाम भक्त्या नृपते कृताञ्जलिरुवाच ह
He bowed with devotion to the king, hands joined, and spoke.
धन्यो ऽहं कृतकृत्यो ऽहं सफलं जीवितं च मे
I am blessed, I am fulfilled; my life has borne fruit.
भगवन्किं करोम्यद्य शुश्रूषां तव मानद
O Lord, what shall I do today to serve you, giver of honor?
इत्युक्त्वा सहसाऽनीतं रामेणार्ध्यं मुदान्वितः
Having said this, he was suddenly brought by Rāma, filled with joy, to receive the arghya.
तज्जलं शिरसाधत्त सकुटुंबो महामनाः
With his family and noble heart, he placed that water upon his head.
भगवन् किं कृतं तेन राज्ञा दुष्टेन पातकम्
O Lord, what sin has that wicked king committed?
साधुबुद्ध्यास दुष्टात्मा किं चकार महामते
What did that evil-minded one do, O wise one, with his corrupted thoughts?
चिरं ध्यात्वा समालोच्य कारणं प्राह भूपते
After long contemplation and careful consideration, he spoke to the king.
यश्च वै कृतवान्पापं सर्वज्ञस्य तवानघ
He who committed the sin against you, O faultless one, who knows all—
द्विजापराधतो मूढ वीर्यं ते विनशिष्यते
Because of offense against a Brahmin, O foolish one, your strength will be destroyed.
अयं रामो महावीर्यं प्रसह्यनृपपुङ्गवम्
This Rāma, of great strength, will subdue the foremost of kings.
यस्मादुरः प्रतिहतं त्वया मातर्ममाग्रतः
Because you, Mother, have blocked me from advancing.
त्रिः सप्तकृत्वो निःक्षत्रां करिष्ये पृथिवीमिमाम्
I will render this earth devoid of kshatriyas twenty-one times.
भाविनोर्ऽथस्य च बलात्करिष्यत्येव मानद
The destined event will certainly occur by force, O giver of honor.
दत्तात्रेयाद्धरेरंशाल्लब्धबोधो महामतिः
Having received wisdom from Dattatreya, a portion of Hari, the great-minded one.
यथागतं ययौ विद्वान्भविष्यत्कालपर्ययात्
As he had come, the wise one departed, according to the cycle of future time.
उपोद्धातपादे भार्गवचरिते त्रिंशत्तमो ऽध्यायः
The thirtieth chapter in the account of Bhargava, in the introductory section.
यच्चकार महावीर्य्यो राज्ञः क्रुद्धो हि कर्मणा
What the mighty one did, angered by the king, through his actions.
रामः प्रोवाच संक्रुद्धो मुञ्चञ्छ्वासान्मुहर्मुहुः
Rama, greatly enraged, spoke, repeatedly exhaling breaths.
कार्त्तवीर्यस्य यो विद्वांश्चक्रे ब्रह्मवधोद्यमम्
The wise one who undertook the effort to slay Kartavirya, a brahmin-killer.
शुभं वाप्यशुभं सर्वे प्रकुर्वन्ति विमोहिताः
All, deluded, perform both auspicious and inauspicious deeds.
कार्त्तवीर्यं निहत्याजौ पितुर्वैरं प्रसाधये
Having slain Kartavirya in battle, I will fulfill my father's vengeance.
रक्षिष्यते तथाप्येनं संहरिष्यामि नान्यथा
Even if he is protected, I will destroy him; there is no other way.
जमदग्निरुवाचेदं पुत्रं साहसभाषिणम्
Jamadagni spoke these words to his son, who spoke boldly.
यच्छ्रुत्वा मानवाः सर्वे जायन्ते धर्मकारिणः
Upon hearing this, all men become performers of righteousness.
