कक्षान्तराणि नृपतिः शनकैरतीत्य त्रीणि क्रमेण च ससंभ्रमकञ्चुकीनि
The king, slowly passing through the three successive inner courts, each with anxious chamberlains, made his way within.
तत्र प्रदीपदधिदर्पणगन्धपुष्पदूर्वाक्षतादिभिरलं पुरकामिनीभिः
There, the women of the city adorned the place with lamps, mirrors, fragrant flowers, sacred grass, rice grains, and other auspicious items.
ताभिः समाभिविनिवेशितमाशु नानारत्नप्रवेकरुचिजालविराजमानम्
By those women, the place was swiftly arranged, shining with nets of various jewels and precious stones.
तस्मिन्गृहे नृप तदीयपुरन्ध्रिवर्गः स्वासीनमाशु नृपतिर्विविधार्हणाभिः
In that house, the king, together with the group of his own royal ladies, was promptly seated and honored with various offerings.
तस्मिन्नशेषदिवसोचितकर्म सर्वं निर्वर्त्य हैहयपतिः स्वमतानुसारम्
There, having completed all the customary daytime rites according to his own tradition, the lord of the Haihayas proceeded as he wished.
कृत्वा दिनान्तसमयोचितकर्म चैव राजा स्वमन्त्रिसचिवानुगतः समन्तात्
Having performed the rites appropriate to the time at the day's end, the king, accompanied on all sides by his ministers and counselors, departed.
तत्रासने समुपविश्य पुरोधमन्त्रिसामन्तनायकशतैः समुपास्यमानः
There, seated upon the throne, he was attended by hundreds of chief priests, ministers, and leaders of the realm.
ततश्चिरं विविधवाद्यविनोदनृत्तप्रेक्षाप्रवृत्तहसनादिकथाप्रसंगः
Then, for a long time, there was diversion with various musical instruments, entertainments, dances, spectacles, laughter, and other conversations.
इत्थं विशामधिपतिर्भृशमानिशार्द्धं नानाविहारविभवानुभवैरनेकैः
Thus the lord of the assembly, for half the night, greatly enjoyed many kinds of pleasures and delights.
तद्राजसैन्यमखिलं निजवीर्यशौर्यसंपत्प्रभावमहिमानुगुणं गृहेषु
All that royal army, in accordance with the greatness and majesty of his own strength, valor, and glory, remained in their quarters.
सैन्यानि तानि नृपतेर्विविधान्नपानसद्भक्ष्यभोज्यमधुमांसपयोघृताद्यैः
Those armies of the king were provided with various foods, drinks, excellent delicacies, honey, meat, curds, ghee, and the like.
एवं तदा नरपतेरनुयायिनस्ते नानाविधोचितसुखानुभवप्रतीताः
In this way, the followers of the king at that time experienced satisfaction from the enjoyment of many kinds of appropriate comforts.
अध्यास्य रत्ननिकरैरति शैभि भद्रं निद्रामसेवत नरेद्र चिरं प्रतीतः
Having reclined upon excellent beds adorned with heaps of jewels, the king, feeling secure, enjoyed restful sleep for a long time.

Surely, with the ever-increasing radiance of your lotus-like face—
तमांसि भिन्दन्नादित्यः संप्राप्तो ह्युदयं विभो
The sun, O Lord, having reached the time of sunrise, dispels the darkness.
निद्रया लं महाबुद्धे प्रतिवुध्यस्व सांप्रतम्
O great-minded one, now leave sleep and awaken at this very moment.
क्षीराब्दौ शेषशयनाद्यथापङ्कजलोचनः
Just as the lotus-eyed one rises from his serpent couch in the ocean of milk—
चकारावहितः सम्यग्जयादिकमशेषतः
He performed, with full attention, all the acts of victory and auspiciousness.
कृत्वा दूर्वाञ्जनादर्शमङ्गल्यालम्बनानि च
He made offerings of sacred grass, black ointment, mirrors, and other auspicious articles.
निष्क्रम्य च पुरात्तस्मादुपतस्थे च भास्करम्
He departed from that city and approached the Sun.
रचिताञ्जलयो राजन्नेमुश्च नृपसत्तमम्
With hands joined in reverence, O King, they bowed to the foremost among rulers.
ननाम पादयोस्तस्य किरीटेनार्कवर्चसा
He bowed at his feet, his crown shining with the radiance of the sun.
प्रश्रयावनतं साम्ना तमुवाचास्यतामिति
With humility, he addressed him gently, saying, 'Be seated.'
उवाच रजनी व्युष्टा सुखेन तव किं नृप
He said, 'The night has passed; is everything well with you, O King?'
शक्यं मृगसधर्माणां येन केनापि वर्त्तितुम्
It is possible for those who live like beasts to subsist by any means.
