विभूतिभेदैरविचिन्त्यरुपमनन्यसाध्यं सुरभिप्रभावात्

पूर्णेन्दुशुभ्राभ्रविषक्तशृङ्गैः प्रासादसंघैः परिवीतमन्तः
Within, it was surrounded by clusters of palaces, with horns shining like the full moon and white clouds.
पृथग्विमिश्रैर्भवनैरनेकैः सद्भासितं नेत्रमनोभिरामैः
Adorned with many separate and mixed dwellings, delightful to the eyes and mind.
तुलाकपाटर्गलकुड्यदेहलीनिशान्तशालाजिरशोभितैर्भृशम्
Resplendent with weighing scales, doors, walls, corridors, night halls, and granaries.
स्तंभेषु कुड्येषु च दिव्यरत्नविचित्रचित्रैः परिशोभमानैः
With pillars and walls brilliantly decorated with various divine gems.
स भक्ष्यभोज्यादिभि रन्नपानैरुपेतभाण्डोपगतैकदेशैः
In one place, it was furnished with vessels containing food, drink, and other edibles.
तस्याश्रमं सन्नगरोपमानं बभौ वधूभिश्चमनोहराभिः
That hermitage shone like a city, with charming women present.

देवाङ्गनातुलितसौभगसौकुमार्यरूपाभिलाषमधुराकृतिरञ्जिताभिः
Adorned with beauty, softness, and charm rivaling the celestial maidens, and with forms sweetened by the longing for loveliness,
श्रोणीभराक्रमणखेदपरिश्रितास्मृगारक्तपावकरसारुणिताङ्घ्रिभूभिः
Their feet reddened by the fire-hued powder, weary from the burden of their hips as they move, like deer exhausted in the chase,
स्रग्दामचुम्बितसकुन्तलकेशपाशकाञ्चीकलापपरिशिञ्जितनूपुराभिः
With hair bound in locks kissed by garlands and necklaces, and anklets ringing as their waists are encircled by jeweled girdles,
भावेषु पार्थिवनिजप्रियधैर्यबन्धसर्वापहारचतुरेषु कृतान्तराभिः
With expressions skilled in stealing away all the steadfastness of their beloved kings, clever in the arts of affection,
वीणाप्रवीणतरपाणितलाङ्गुलीभिर्गंभीरचक्रचटुवादरतोत्सुकाभिः
With hands and fingers most adept at playing the vīṇā, eager for the deep, charming, and artful music of the instrument,
कामप्रयोगनिपुणाभिरहीनसंपदौदार्यरूपगुणशीलसमन्विताभिः
Skilled in the arts of love, endowed with generosity, beauty, virtues, and character, and lacking nothing in accomplishment,
पुंभिश्च तद्गुणगणोचितरूपशोभैरुद्भासितैर्गृहचरैः परितः परीतम्
Surrounded on all sides by attendants whose forms and splendor matched their many qualities,
पौरैरशेषार्थगुणैः समन्तादध्यास्यमानं परिपूर्णकामैः
And filled on every side by citizens, each possessing every desirable quality and wealth, their wishes completely fulfilled,
रथाश्वमातङ्गखरोष्ट्रगोजायोग्यैरनेकैरपि मन्दिरैश्च
With many mansions for chariots, horses, elephants, camels, oxen, and goats,
विप्रादिकानां रथिसारथीनां गृहैस्तथा मागधबन्दिनां च
With houses for brahmins and others, for charioteers and drivers, and for bards and minstrels of Magadha,
महाधनोपस्करसाधुनिर्मितैर्गृहैश्च शुभ्रैर्गणिकाजनानाम्
And with splendid houses of courtesans, built by the wealthy and the virtuous, furnished with great riches,
चित्रैर्ध्वचैश्चापि पताकिकाभिः शुभ्रैः पटैर्मण्डपिकाभिरुन्नतैः
With colorful banners and flags, and with lofty canopies adorned with shining white cloth,
नानारवाढ्यरमणीयतटाकवापीसरोवरैश्चापि जलोपपन्नैः
With many delightful ponds, wells, and lakes, each filled with water and pleasing with their varied sounds,
पर्यन्तरोपितमनोरमनागकेतकीपुन्नागचंपकवनैश्च पतत्रिजुष्टैः
With enchanting groves of nāga, ketakī, punnāga, and campaka trees planted along the outskirts, frequented by birds,
संलक्ष्यमाणपरितोपवनालिभिश्च संशोभितं जगति विस्मयनीयरूपैः
And made splendid by gardens all around, whose wondrous forms were admired throughout the world,
इत्थ सुरासुरमनोरमभोगसंपद्विस्पष्टमानविभवं नगरं नरेद्र
Thus, O king, the city shone forth with manifest human prosperity, delightful to gods and asuras alike,
ज्ञात्वा ततो मुनिवरो द्विजहोमधेन्वा संपादितं नरपते रुचिरातिथेयम्
Then, knowing this, the best of sages prepared a splendid reception for the king, with offerings from twice-born priests and cows.
गत्वा विशामधिपतेस्तरसा समीपं संप्रश्रयं मुनिसुतस्तमिदं बभाषे
Having swiftly approached the lord of the city, the sage's son addressed him with humility as follows.
राजा ततो मुनिवरेण कृताभ्यनुज्ञः संप्राविशत्पुरवरं स्वकृते कृतं तत्
Then, with the permission granted by the eminent sage, the king entered the splendid city, which had been prepared for him.
