With eyes reddened in anger, Tāmrākṣa spoke this reply to Tāmrākṣa.
Why do you reproach me, as if I were an ingrate, O Kāṃprata?
Who would look down upon a self-controlled person who commits no wrong, even by name?
Association, living together, and even conversation—
Abandoning my own refuge, where shall I go, hungry as I am?
I will go elsewhere from here; I will not remain here, especially at a distance.
I cannot be moved from this place by any means.
Then the best of the Bhṛgus spoke these words again to the king:
One who is always engaged in wicked deeds is despised by all creatures.
How, then, should such a person not be abandoned by the virtuous, O fool?
Quickly depart from here to another place; there is no need for deliberation.
Just as you feel pain from thorns and the like, because of your intolerance—
And pain is indeed experienced by those who are struck, but for you it is otherwise.
Because of such contrary conduct, you are always condemned by the virtuous.
How will you harm the good? You do not attain the right to speak.
Through you, there will be no loss for me in the merit of my actions.
I will clearly develop the intention to withdraw.
Who can ever find peace, being always opposed to righteousness?
Then the wielder of the Pināka, taking the form of a hunter, spoke as if enraged:
How are you the foremost knower? How is Śambhu so? Whence is your austerity?
Indeed, Śaṅkara is not pleased by the actions of one who proceeds falsely.
O slow-witted one, which ignorant mortal can shine without you?
By properly worshipping according to the rules, there is union with Śambhu for the worshipper.
You, too, are fit to be his worshipper—about this there is no doubt.
Having cut off the head, Śambhu again incurred the sin of slaying a Brahmin.
You have been instructed to do that; if not so, then how did you act thus?
O sage, the accomplishment of austerity was attained by the lesser Kola.
Under the pretense of austerity, you proceed into the deep and solitary wilderness.
You practice austerity, but by this austerity, that (sin) is not destroyed.
Know that for one who has harmed his mother, there is truly no expiation anywhere.
