प्रीयमाणो ऽवसद्रामः पितुः पित्रोर्न्निवेशने
Pleased, Rama stayed in his father's residence.
उवास कतिचिन्मासांस्तच्छुश्रूषापरायणः
He dwelt there for several months, devoted to serving them.
पितामहगुरोर्गन्तुमियेषाश्रयमाश्रमम्
He wished to go to the hermitage of his grandfather and preceptor.
यथा चाभ्यां प्रदिष्टेन यया वौर्वाश्रमं प्रति
As directed by both of them, he set out for the hermitage of Aurva.
सप्रहर्षं तदाज्ञातः प्रययावाश्रमं भृगोः
Having received their joyful permission, he went to the hermitage of Bhrigu.
ददर्श शान्तचेतोभिर्मुनिभिः सर्वतो वृतम्
He saw it surrounded on all sides by sages of tranquil minds.
तरुभिः संवृतं प्रीतः फलपुष्पोत्तरान्वितैः
He was pleased to see it covered with trees laden with fruit and flowers.
ब्रह्मघोषैश्च विविधैः सर्वतः प्रतिनादितम्
It resounded on all sides with various chants of Brahman.
निरस्तनिखिलाघौघं वनान्तरविसर्पिणा
All sins were dispelled by the sanctity that spread throughout the forest.
अभितः शोभितं राजन्रम्यैर्मुनिकुमारकैः
O King, it was beautifully adorned all around by delightful young sages.
शोभितं मुनिकल्याभिश्चरन्तीभिरितस्ततः
Adorned by noble sages, wandering here and there.
उटजाङ्गणपर्यन्ततरुच्छायास्वधिष्ठितम्
Situated beneath the shade of trees at the edge of hermitage courtyards.
प्रारब्धताण्डवं केकीमयूरैर्मधुरस्वरैः
Peacocks began their dance, with sweet voices.
अनालीढातपच्छायाशुष्यन्नीवारराशिभिः
With heaps of grass dried up, untouched by the shade or heat.
अभ्यस्यमानच्छन्दौघं चिन्त्यमानगमोदितम्
Filled with the practice of various meters, delighting those who contemplate.
प्रारब्धपितृदेवेज्यं सर्वभूतमनोहरम्
Initiated with offerings to ancestors and gods, enchanting all beings.
तपोवृद्धिकरं पुण्यं सर्वसत्त्वसुखास्पदम्
A place that increases ascetic power, holy, and the abode of happiness for all creatures.
प्रसूनसौरभभ्राम्यन्मधुपारावनादितम्
Resounding with the buzzing of bees intoxicated by the fragrance of flowers.
एवंविधगुणोपेतं पश्यन्नाश्रममुत्तमम्
Beholding such qualities, he saw the excellent hermitage.
संप्रविश्यश्रमोपान्तं रामः स्वप्रपितामहम्
Rama entered the vicinity of the hermitage to see his great-grandfather.
सितश्मश्रुजटाकूर्चब्रह्मसूत्रोपशोभितम्
Adorned with white beard, matted locks, and sacred Brahmin thread.
वामेतरोरुमध्यास्त वामजङ्घेन जानुना
Seated between his left and right thighs, with his left knee bent.
व्याख्यानमुद्राविलसत्सव्यपाणितलांबुजम्
His lotus-like left palm shining with the gesture of explanation.
सम्यगारण्यवाक्यानां सूक्ष्मतत्त्वार्थसंहतिम्
Perfectly expressing the subtle essence of the forest teachings.
पितुः पितामहं द्दष्ट्वा रामस्तस्य महात्मनः
Seeing his great-grandfather, Rama beheld that great soul.
तमागतमुपालक्ष्य तत्प्रभावप्रधर्षिताः
Observing his arrival, all were overcome by his radiance.
तावदूभृगुरमेयात्मा तदागमनतोषितः
Then the wise Bhrigu, pleased by his coming.
रामो ऽपि तमुपागम्य विनयावनताननः
Rama too approached him, with his face bowed in humility.
अभिवाद्य यथान्यायं ख्यातिं च विनयान्वितः
He offered his respects according to custom, and with humility made his introduction.
तैश्च सर्वैर्मुदोपेतैराशीर्भिरभिवर्द्धितः
He was honored by all of them, who were filled with joy, and blessed with their good wishes.
