They are cooked in Kumbhīpāka hell, their tongues cut again and again.
He experiences endless suffering, here or elsewhere, without doubt.
He who has mastered the Ṛg, Yajur, and Sāma Vedas and their limbs, yet does not attain this changeless path, fails.
He who has mastered the twenty-four principles is truly accomplished, not merely one who has studied.
A twice-born who does not withdraw into the path of yoga is not one who has crossed all stages, nor one who has reached the ultimate.
Him, the knowers of the Veda call a true knower of the Veda, one who has crossed to the farther shore of the Veda.
Thus, the knowers of the Veda declare another as one who has crossed to the farther shore of the Veda.
He who is devoted to the ancestors attains long life and offspring, without doubt.
He attains all these, and also the fruits of giving at holy places.
And having had this recited to the twice-born, he obtains all desired things.
One who is free from envy, who has conquered anger, and is devoid of greed and delusion,
Even here, he gains supreme strength; therefore, one should always perform this.
He attains offspring, and with supreme brilliance, he goes to the same world as the gods.
And I always bow to the great lords of yoga.
Nineteenth chapter: The Examination of Brahmins in the Ritual of Śrāddha.
The imperishable ancestors always dwell in seven pure places.
The first group increases the pursuit of yogas.
The rest are to be known as those of the varṇas; thus, all have been described.
And the four āśramas worship them in due order.
Likewise, those born of mixed castes and even mlecchas also worship them.
The ancestors grant prosperity to one who desires nourishment or offspring.
Indeed, the duty to the ancestors surpasses even the duty to the gods.
For the subtle path of yoga of the ancestors is not known to men.
For all, a silver vessel, or one adorned with silver, is prescribed.
Those whose relatives will offer the three balls of food by name and lineage—
Wherever those balls are offered, they truly satisfy the ancestors.
Just as a calf finds its mother in the herd when lost,
So too, the name, lineage, mantra, and food offered lead one there.
In this way, this existence is established from Brahmā, the supreme lord.
Thus, these are the ancestors, the worlds, and likewise the daughters.
