तत्र देवह्रदः पुण्यो ब्रह्मणो नागराट् शुचिः
There is the holy Devahrada, pure, belonging to Brahmā and the king of serpents.
अतिप्रदीप्तैर्भुजगैर्भोक्तुमन्नं न शक्यते
Because of exceedingly radiant serpents, food cannot be eaten there.
कारवत्यां च शाण्डिल्यां गुहायां वामनस्य च
In Kāravati, Śāṇḍilya, and in the cave of Vāmana.
जपो होमस्तपो ध्यानं यत्किञ्चित्सुकृतं भवेत्
Recitation, oblation, austerity, meditation—whatever good deed may be performed.
कुमारधारा तत्रैव दृष्टा पापं प्रणश्यति
There, the Kumāra stream is seen; sin is destroyed.
शैलः कान्तिपुराभ्याशे प्रागुदीच्यां दिशि स्थितः
A mountain stands near Kāntipura, in the northeastern direction.
यस्यां स्नात्वा सकृद्विप्रः कामानाप्नोति शाश्वतान्
A Brahmin who bathes there even once attains eternal desires.
अदृश्यः सर्वभूतानां देववच्चरते महीम्
Invisible to all beings, he moves upon the earth like a god.
तत्र श्राद्धानि देयानि नित्यमक्षयमिच्छता
There, offerings for ancestors should be given always by one desiring imperishable merit.
निर्धूतानि तु पापानि दृश्यन्ते सुकृतात्मनाम्
There, sins are washed away and the good deeds of the virtuous are seen.
कालञ्जरे दशार्णायां नैमिषे कुरुजाङ्गले
In Kālañjara, Daśārṇa, Naimisha, and Kurujāṅgala.
तत्र योगेश्वरो नित्यं तस्यां दत्तमथाक्षयम्
There, the lord of yoga is always present; whatever is given there becomes imperishable.
जबो होमस्तथा ध्यानं यत्किञ्चित्सुकृतं भवेत्
Recitation, oblation, meditation, and whatever good deed there may be—
सा तु देवी समुद्रान्ते दृश्यते चैव नामभिः
That goddess is seen at the edge of the ocean, known by many names.
गयां गृध्रवटे चैव श्राद्धं दत्तं महाफलम्
A śrāddha offering given at Gayā, at the vulture peak, yields great fruit.
भरतस्याश्रमे पुण्ये ऽरण्यं पुण्यतमं स्मृतम्
In the holy hermitage of Bharata, the forest is remembered as most sacred.
स्थापितं धर्मसर्वस्वं लोकस्यास्य निदर्शनम्
There, the entirety of dharma has been established as an example for this world.
यस्मिन्प्राहुर्विशल्येति तीर्थं सद्यो निदर्शनम्
There is a ford called Viśalya, renowned as a manifest sign.
उन्मच्चन्ति तथा लग्न ये वै पापकृतो जनाः
Those people who have committed sins and are attached there become mad.
महाह्रदे च कौशिक्यां दत्तं श्राद्धं महाफलम्
A śrāddha offering given in the great lake of the Kauśikī river yields great fruit.
बहुदेवयुगांस्तप्त्वा तपस्तीव्रं सुदश्चरम्
Having performed severe austerity for many ages of the gods,
पाप्मानमुत्सृजत्याशु जीर्णां त्वचमिवोरगः
One quickly casts off sin, just as a serpent sheds its worn-out skin.
लेलिहानैर्महाघोरै रक्ष्यते सुमहोरगैः
It is guarded by very fierce, licking, great serpents.
उदीच्यां मुण्डपृष्टस्य ब्रह्मर्षिगणसेवितम्
In the north, on Muṇḍapṛṣṭa, attended by hosts of brahmarṣis,
दत्तं वापि सदा श्राद्धमक्षय्यं समुदाहृतम्
A śrāddha offering given there is always declared imperishable.
मानसे सरसि स्नात्वा श्राद्धंनिर्वर्त्तयेत्ततः
After bathing in the lake of the mind, one should then perform the śrāddha.
आरुह्य तु जपंस्तत्र सिद्धो याति दिवं ततः
Ascending there, one who recites attains perfection and then goes to heaven.
स्नात्वा तस्मिन्सरश्रेष्ठे दृश्यते महादद्भुतम्
After bathing in that best of lakes, a great and wondrous sight is seen.
गङ्गा त्रिपथगा देवी विष्णुपादाच्च्युता सती
The goddess Gaṅgā, the threefold river, indeed flowed forth from Viṣṇu’s feet.
जांबूनदमयं पुण्यं स्वगद्वारमिवायतम्
It is pure, made of gold from the Jāmbū tree, and stretches like the gateway to heaven.
