रुद्रस्तत्र तपस्तेपे देवदेवो महेश्वरः
There, Rudra, the great god of gods, performed austerities.
अब्राह्मणस्य सावित्रीं पठतस्तु प्रणश्यति
If a non-Brahmin recites the Sāvitrī there, it is destroyed.
आरुह्यतं निय मवांस्ततो याति त्रिविष्टपम्
Ascending the prescribed path from there, one goes to heaven.
आपश्चन्दनसंयुक्ताः स्पन्देति सततं ततः
The waters, mixed with sandalwood, always tremble there.
या चन्दनमहाखण्डाद्दक्षिणं याति सागरम्
That which flows south from the great sandalwood mountain reaches the ocean.
शङ्खा भवन्ति शुक्त्यश्च जायते यासु मौक्तिकम्
In those waters, conch shells and oysters are formed, and pearls arise.
आधिभिर्व्याधिभिश्चैव मुक्ता यान्त्यमरावतीम्
Freed from mental and physical afflictions, they go to Amarāvatī.
पापकर्त्तॄनपि पितॄंस्तारयन्ति यथाश्रुति
They deliver even sinful ancestors, as declared in the scriptures.
श्रीपर्वतस्य तीर्थेषु वैकृते च तथा गिरौ
At the holy places of Mount Śrīparvata and also at Vaikṛta mountain,
पलाशाः खदिरा बिल्वाः प्लक्षाश्वत्थविकङ्कताः
Palāśa, khadira, bilva, plakṣa, aśvattha, and vikaṅkata trees (are found there).
अस्मिंस्त्यक्त्वा जनोंऽगाति क्षिप्रं यात्यमरावतीम्
Here, when a person departs from this body, he quickly goes to Amaravati.
कर्माणि तु प्रयुक्ता नि सिद्ध्यन्ति प्रभवाप्यये
Indeed, actions performed here attain their results at the time of creation and dissolution.
पितॄणां दुहिता पुण्या नर्मदा सरितां वरा
Narmada, the most excellent among rivers, is the virtuous daughter of the Pitrs.
माठरस्य वने पुण्ये सिद्धचारणसेविते
In the sacred forest of Mathara, attended by Siddhas and Caranas,
विन्ध्ये चैव गिरौ पुण्ये धर्माधर्मनिदर्शनीम्
And on the holy Vindhya mountain, which reveals the nature of righteousness and unrighteousness,
तत्र तद्दृश्यते पापं केषां चित्पापकर्मणाम्
There, the sins of some people who have committed evil deeds are seen.
स्नात्वा तस्या दिवं यान्ति कामचारा विहङ्गमाः
After bathing in her waters, birds move about freely in the heavens as they please.
पाण्डुकूपे समुद्रान्ते पिण्डारकतटे तथा
At Pandukupa, at the edge of the ocean, and likewise on the bank of Pindaraka,
श्रीवृक्षे चित्रकूटे च जंबूमार्गे च नित्यशः
At the auspicious tree in Citrakuta, and always along the Jambu path,
तत्रापि श्राद्धमानन्त्यमसितायां च नित्यशः
There too, and always at Asita, the śrāddha rite is of endless merit.
महोदधौ प्रभासे च तद्वदेव विनिर्दिशेत्
In the great ocean and at Prabhasa, one should likewise indicate the same.
समुत्पतन्ति तस्यापो गवां शब्देन नित्यशः
From her, waters constantly arise with the sound of cows.
दद्याच्छ्राद्धं तु यस्तस्मिंस्तस्य वक्ष्यामि यत्फलम्
I shall declare the fruit for one who offers śrāddha there.
जातवेदः शिला तत्र साक्षादग्नेः सनातनात्
There, the stone called Jataveda is the very embodiment of the eternal fire.
यस्त्वग्निं प्रविशेत्तत्र नाकपृष्ठे स मोदते
Whoever enters the fire there does not rejoice in the highest heaven.
दशाश्वमेधिके तीर्थे तीर्थे पञ्चाश्वमेधिके
At the tīrtha where ten Aśvamedha sacrifices are performed, and at the tīrtha of fifty Aśvamedhas,
ख्यातं हयशिरो नाम तीर्थं सद्यो वरप्रदम्
The tīrtha called Hayashira is renowned, instantly granting boons.
श्राद्धं सुंदनिसुंदे च देयं पापनिषू दनम्
Śrāddha should be offered at Sundani and Sundi, and gifts should be given to remove sin.
जतुङ्गे शुभे तीर्थे तर्पयेत्सततं पितॄन्
At the auspicious and elevated holy place, one should always offer oblations to the ancestors.
पृथिव्यामक्षयं दत्तं विरजा यत्र पादपः
On earth, that which is given at the place where the Virajā tree stands is inexhaustible.
