तैरुका सा तु मा भैषी रित्यतो ऽधिष्ठिताभवत्
By them she was reassured, being told, 'Do not fear,' and thus she was established.
ऊचुस्ते पितरः कन्यां भ्रष्टैश्वर्यां व्यतिक्रमात्
The ancestors spoke to the maiden, whose sovereignty had been lost due to transgression.
यैराचरन्ति कर्मणि शरीरैरिह देवताः
By whose bodies here the gods perform actions,
सद्यः फलन्ति कर्माणि देवत्वे प्रेत्य मानुषे
Their deeds bear fruit immediately, whether in divinity or after death in human form.
इत्युक्तया तु पितरः पुनस्ते तु प्रसादिताः
Thus addressed, the ancestors were again appeased by her.
उत्पन्नस्य पृथिव्यां तु मानुषेषु महात्मनः
When the great-souled one is born on earth among humans,
अष्टाविंशे भवित्री त्वं द्वापरे मत्स्ययोनिजा
In the twenty-eighth Dvāpara, you will be born from the womb of a fish.
पराशरस्य दायादमृषिं त्वं जनयिष्यसि
You will give birth to a sage, the heir of Parāśara.
महाभिषस्य पुत्रौ द्वौ शन्तनोः कीर्त्तिवर्द्धनौ
You will bear two sons of Mahābhiṣa, the glory-increasing sons of Śantanu.
चित्राङ्गदं च राजानं सर्वसत्त्वबलान्वितम्
Namely, the king Citrāṅgada, endowed with the strength of all beings,
व्यभिचारात्पितॄणां त्वं प्राप्स्यसे जन्म कुत्सितम्
Because of the ancestors' transgression, you will obtain a reproachable birth.
कन्या भूत्वा ततश्च त्वमिमांल्लोकानवाप्स्यसि
Then, having become a maiden, you will attain these worlds.
अद्रिकायाः सुता मत्स्या सुता जाता ह्यमावसोः
The daughter of Adrikā is Matsyā, and Amāvasu's daughter was born from her.
तस्या राज्ञो हि सा कन्या राज्ञो वीर्येण चैव हि
That king's daughter, indeed, by the king's virility,
एतेषां मानसी कन्या पीवरी नाम विश्रुता
Among these, the mind-born daughter, renowned as Pīvarī,
भविता द्वापरं प्राप्य अष्टाविंशतिमेव तु
Will be born in the very twenty-eighth Dvāpara.
व्यासादरण्यां संभूतो विधूम इव पावकः
Vyāsa was born in the forest, like a smokeless fire.
स तस्यां पितृकन्यायां पीवर्यां जनयद्विभुः
In that daughter of the ancestors, Pīvarī, the mighty one begot offspring.
कृष्णा गौरं प्रभुं शंभुं तथा भूरिश्रुतं च वै
He begot Kṛṣṇa, the fair-complexioned lord Śambhu, and also one greatly learned.
ब्रह्मदत्तस्य चननी महिषी त्वणुहस्य सा
She was the mother of Brahmadatta and the queen of Tvaṇuha.
सर्वव्यापी विनिर्मुक्तो भविष्यति महामुनिः
He will become a great sage, all-pervading and liberated.
तान्वक्ष्यामि द्विजश्रेष्ठाः प्रभामूर्त्तिमतो गणान्
O best of twice-born, I shall tell you of the groups who possess radiant forms.
पितरो देवलोकेषु ज्योतिर्भासिषु भास्वराः
The ancestors in the worlds of the gods are shining and radiant in brilliance.
एतेषां मानसी कन्या योगोत्पत्तिरितिश्रुता
Among them, a daughter born from the mind is known as arising through yoga.
एकशृङ्गेति विख्याता भृगूणां कीर्तिवर्द्धिनी
She is famed as Ekaśṛṅgā, the increaser of the glory of the Bhṛgus.
एते ह्यङ्गिरसः पुत्राः साध्यैः संवर्द्धिताः पुरा
These indeed are the sons of Aṅgiras, formerly raised by the Sādhyas.
तान्क्षत्रियगणाः सप्त भावयन्ति फलार्थिनः
Seven groups of kṣatriyas honor them, seeking reward.
मता या जननी देवी खट्वाङ्गस्य महात्मनः
She who is considered the mother is the goddess, wife of the great-souled Khaṭvāṅga.
अग्नेर्जन्म तदा दृष्ट्वा शाण्डिल्यस्य महात्मनः
Then, seeing the birth of Agni, of the great-souled Śāṇḍilya,
सत्यव्रतं महात्मानं ते ऽपि स्वर्गजितो नराः
Those men, conquerors of heaven, also honored the great-souled Satyavrata.
