स्वेतं च विमलं चैव पुष्पदन्तं चयावहम्
Sveta, Vimala, Pushpadanta, and Yavaha,
कुमुदाक्षं सुकमलं वर्द्धमानं तथा हितम्
Kumudaksha, Sukamala, Vardhamana, and Hita,
पूर्ममासं हिरण्याक्षं सारणं चैव मानसम्
Purmamasa, Hiranyaksha, Sarana, and Manasa,
सुरुपाश्च सुवेषाश्च स्रग्विणः प्रियदर्शनाः
Beautiful in form, well-dressed, adorned with garlands, pleasing to behold,
खशायास्त्वपरे पुत्रा राक्षसाः कामरूपिणः
Others were the sons of Khashaya, Rakshasas with the power to assume forms at will.
लालाविः क्रथनो भीमः सुमाली मधुरेव च
Lalavi, Krathana, Bhima, Sumali, and Madhura,
चन्द्रार्कभीकरो बुध्नः कपिलोमा प्रहासकः
Chandrakabhikara, Budhna, Kapiloma, and Prahasaka,
त्रिशिराः शतदंष्ट्रश्च तुण्डकोशश्च राक्षसः
Trishira, Shatadamshtra, Tundakosha, all Rakshasas,
इत्येते राक्षसवारा विक्रान्ता गणरूपिमः
Thus these mighty Rakshasa chiefs, powerful and in groups,
सप्त चान्या दुहितरस्ताः शृणुध्वं यथाक्रमम्
There were also seven other daughters; listen to their names in order.
आलंबा उत्कचोत्कृष्टा निरृता कपिला शिवा
Alamba, Utkaca, Utkrishta, Nirrita, Kapila, and Shiva,
ताभ्यो लोकनिकायस्य हन्तारो युद्धदुर्मदाः
From them came the destroyers of worlds, fierce in battle and reckless.
आलंबेयो गणः क्रूर औत्कचेयो गणस्तथा
The fierce Ālambeva group and likewise the Autkaceya group.
तथैव नैरृतो नाम त्र्यंबकानुचरेण ह
In the same way, the group called Nairṛta, followers of Tryambaka.
विक्रान्ताः शौर्यसंपन्ना नैरृता देवराक्षसाः
The Nairṛtas, divine rākṣasas, are powerful and endowed with valor.
तेषां गणशतानीका उद्धतानां महात्मनाम्
Their hosts and companies are hundreds, bold and of great spirit.
दैत्यराजेन कुम्भेन महाकाया महात्मना
By the Daitya king Kumbha, mighty of body and great of soul.
कापिलेया महावीर्या उदीर्णा दैत्यराक्षसाः
The Kāpileyas, of great strength, arose—Daitya rākṣasas.
उत्पादिता बलावता उदीर्णा यक्षराक्षसाः
Produced by the powerful one, arose the Yakṣa rākṣasas.
आलंबेयेन जनिता नैकाः सुरसिकेन हि
By Ālambeva, many were generated, and by Surasika indeed.
चरन्ति पृथिवीं कृत्स्नां तत्र ते देवलौकिकाः
They roam the whole earth—those beings of the divine world.
तस्यास्त्वपि च नीलाया विकचा नाम राक्षसी
And of that Nīlā, there was a rākṣasī named Vikacā.
विरूपकेन तस्यां वै नैरृतेन इह प्रजाः
By Virūpaka, the Nairṛta, offspring were born from her.
दंष्ट्राकराला विकृता महाकर्णा महोदराः
With protruding fangs, deformed, large-eared, and big-bellied.
रेरवाकाः पिशाचाश्च वाहकास्त्रासकाः परे
Some are howlers, others are piśācas, some are carriers, others cause fear.
चरन्त्यदृष्टपूर्वास्तु नानाकारा ह्यनेकशः
They move about in forms never seen before, of many kinds and in great numbers.
लक्षमात्रेण चाकाशं स्वल्पात्स्वल्पं चरन्ति वै
Within a hundred thousand measures, they traverse the sky, moving little by little.
भूमिराक्षसकैः सर्वैरनेकैः क्षुद्रराक्षसैः
The earth is filled with all sorts of rākṣasas and many small rākṣasas.
समासाभिहिताश्चैवह्यष्टौ राक्षसमातरः
And thus, in summary, eight rākṣasa mothers are mentioned.
भद्रका निकराः केचिदज्ञनिष्पत्तिहेतुकाः
Some groups are Bhadrakās, the cause of ignorance and misfortune.
