वैश्वानरः पुलोमा च प्रापणो ऽथ महाशिराः
Vaiśvānara, Pulomā, Prāpaṇa, and Mahāśirā,
धृतराष्ट्रश्च सूर्यश्चचन्द्रमा इन्द्रतापनः
Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Sūrya, Candra, and Indratāpana,
असिलोमा सुकेशश्च शठश्च मूलकोदरः
Asilomā, Sukeśa, Śaṭha, and Mūlakodara,
प्रमदो ऽद्मश्च कुपथो ह्यश्वग्रीवश्च वीर्यवान्
Pramada, Adma, Kupatha, and the mighty Aśvagrīva,
अक्षो हिरण्मयश्चैव शतग्रीवश्च शंबरः
Akṣa, Hiraṇmaya, Śatagrīva, and Śaṃbara,
असुराणां स्मृतावेतौ सुराणां च प्रभाविणौ
These two are remembered among the Asuras, and among the gods, as powerful.
तेषामपरिसंख्येयं पुत्रपौत्रमनन्तकम्
Their sons and grandsons are countless and without end.
सुत्वानस्तु स्मृता दैत्या असुत्वानो दनोः सुताः
Those born of wives are called Daityas; those not born of wives are sons of Danu.
एकाक्षेश्वप्रभारिष्टः प्रलंबनरकावपि
Ekākṣa, Śvaprabha, Ariṣṭa, Pralaṃba, and Naraka,
गरिष्ठश्च गवाक्षश्च तालकेतुश्च वीर्यवान्
Gariṣṭha, Gavākṣa, and the mighty Tālaketu.
दैत्यदानवसंयोगे जाता भीमपराक्रमाः
Born from the union of Daityas and Dānavas, they possessed terrible might.
सैंहिकेयाः समाख्याताश्चतुर्दश महासुराः
These fourteen great Asuras are known as the sons of Siṃhikā.
इल्वलो नमुचिश्चैव वातापिस्तु सुपुञ्जिकः
Ilvala, Namuci, Vātāpi, and Supuñjika—
राहुर्ज्येष्ठस्तु तेषां वै सूर्यचन्द्रप्रमर्द्दनः
Among them, Rāhu is the eldest, the one who afflicts the sun and moon.
दारुणाभिजनाः क्रूराः सर्वे ब्रह्महणश्च ते
All of them are of fierce lineage, cruel, and slayers of Brahmins.
निहता जामदग्न्येन भार्गवेण बलीयसा
They were slain by the mighty Bhārgava, the son of Jamadagni.
उपदानवी सदस्याथ शर्मिष्ठा वृषपर्वणः
Upadānavī and Sadasyā, and also Śarmiṣṭhā, daughter of Vṛṣaparvan—
प्रभायां नहुषः पुत्रो जयन्तस्तु शचीसुतः
From Prabhā was born Nahusha’s son, and Jayanta is the son of Śacī.
वैश्वानरसुते एते पुलोमा कालका तथा
These are the daughters of Vaiśvānara: Pulomā and also Kālakā.
तयोः पुत्रसहस्राणि षष्टिर्दानवपुङ्गवाः
From these two, sixty thousand foremost Dānavas were born.
पौलोमाः कालकेयाश्च दानवाः सुमरा बलाः
The Paulomas and Kālakeyas are Dānavas, mighty and renowned in battle.
मयस्य जाता रंभायां पुत्राः षट् च महाबलाः
From Rambhā, six mighty sons of Maya were born.
कालिकश्चाजकर्णश्चकन्या मन्दोदरी तथा
Kālika, Ājakarṇa, Kanyā, and also Mandodarī—
अनायुषायाः पुत्रास्ते स्मृताः पञ्च महाबलाः
These are remembered as the five mighty sons of Anāyuṣā.
अररोस्तनयः क्रूरो धुन्धुर्नाम महासुरः
The fierce son of Arara is the great Asura named Dhundhu.
बलपुत्रौ महावीर्यौं तेजसाप्रतिमावुभौ
The two sons of Bala were of great heroism, both unequalled in brilliance.
विजरस्यापि पुत्रौ द्वौ कालकश्च खरश्च तौ
Vijara too had two sons: Kālaka and Khara.
श्राद्धादो यज्ञहा चैव ब्रह्महा पशुहा तथा
Śrāddhāda, Yajñahā, Brahmahā, and also Paśuhā.
जज्ञिरे ऽसुमहाघोरा वृत्रस्येन्द्रेण युध्यता
They were born, exceedingly fierce, during the battle between Indra and Vṛtra.
शतं तानि सहस्राणि महेन्द्रानुचराः स्मृताः
A hundred thousand of them are remembered as followers of mighty Indra.
