सुतमित्रो ह्यमित्रश्च सुरमित्रस्तथापरः
Sutamitra, Amitra, and Suramitra are the next.
धातुश्च धनदश्चैव ह्युग्रो भीमस्तथैव च
Dhātu, Dhanada, Ugra, and Bhīma likewise.
अभियुक्ताक्षिकश्चैव साह्वायश्च गणः स्मृतः
Abhiyuktākṣika and Sāhvāya are remembered as a group.
मितश्च समितश्चैव पञ्चमश्च तथा गणः
Mita and Samita, and the fifth group as well.
संमितः समवृत्तिश्च प्रतिहर्ता च षड् गणाः
Saṃmita, Samavṛtti, and Pratihartā are the six groups.
दैत्यदेवाः समाख्याताः सप्तैते सप्तसप्तकाः
These seven groups, called Daityas and Devas, are known as the seven sevens.
प्रसंख्यातास्तदा ताभ्यां दित्या शक्रेण चैव वै
They were enumerated then by Diti and Śakra.
वातस्कन्धांश्चरन्त्वेते भ्रतरो मम पुत्रकाः
These, my sons and brothers, move about as the wind divisions.
तस्यास्तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा महस्राक्षः पुरन्दरः
Hearing those words, Purandara, the great-eyed one, responded.
सर्व मेतद्यथोक्तं ते भविष्यति न संशयः
All this will happen just as you have said, without doubt.
देवैः सह भविष्यन्ति यज्ञभाजस्तवात्म जाः
Your sons will share in sacrifices together with the gods.
विज्ञेयाश्चामराः सर्वे दितिपुत्रास्तरस्विनः
All the sons of Diti, swift and powerful, are to be known as Amarās.
जग्मतुस्त्रिदिवं त्दृष्टौ शक्रमाभूद्गतज्वरः
They went to heaven; seeing them, Indra was freed from his distress.
वादे विजयमाप्नोति लब्धात्मा च भवत्युत
He attains victory in debate and truly becomes self-possessed.
विप्रचित्तिप्रधा नास्ते ऽचिन्तनीयपराक्रमाः
Vipracitti is the chief; their valor is unimaginable.
सत्यसंधाः पराक्रान्ताः क्रूरा मायाविनश्च ते
They are true to their word, mighty in battle, fierce, and masters of illusion.
कीर्त्यमानान्मया सर्वान्प्राधान्येन निबोधत
Now hear from me, in order of importance, the names of them all.
शङ्कुकर्णो विपादश्च गविष्ठो दुन्दुभिस्तथा
Śaṅkukarṇa, Vipāda, Gaviṣṭha, and Dundubhi,
मरीचिरसिपाश्चैव महा मायो ऽशिरा भृशी
Marīci, Asipāśa, the great magician Mahāmāya, Aśirā, and Bhṛśī,
इन्द्रजिद्विविदश्चैव तथा भद्रश्च देवजित्
Indrajit, Vivida, as well as Bhadra and Devajit,
वैश्वानरः पुलोमा च प्रापणो ऽथ महाशिराः
Vaiśvānara, Pulomā, Prāpaṇa, and Mahāśirā,
धृतराष्ट्रश्च सूर्यश्चचन्द्रमा इन्द्रतापनः
Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Sūrya, Candra, and Indratāpana,
असिलोमा सुकेशश्च शठश्च मूलकोदरः
Asilomā, Sukeśa, Śaṭha, and Mūlakodara,
प्रमदो ऽद्मश्च कुपथो ह्यश्वग्रीवश्च वीर्यवान्
Pramada, Adma, Kupatha, and the mighty Aśvagrīva,
अक्षो हिरण्मयश्चैव शतग्रीवश्च शंबरः
Akṣa, Hiraṇmaya, Śatagrīva, and Śaṃbara,
असुराणां स्मृतावेतौ सुराणां च प्रभाविणौ
These two are remembered among the Asuras, and among the gods, as powerful.
तेषामपरिसंख्येयं पुत्रपौत्रमनन्तकम्
Their sons and grandsons are countless and without end.
सुत्वानस्तु स्मृता दैत्या असुत्वानो दनोः सुताः
Those born of wives are called Daityas; those not born of wives are sons of Danu.
एकाक्षेश्वप्रभारिष्टः प्रलंबनरकावपि
Ekākṣa, Śvaprabha, Ariṣṭa, Pralaṃba, and Naraka,
गरिष्ठश्च गवाक्षश्च तालकेतुश्च वीर्यवान्
Gariṣṭha, Gavākṣa, and the mighty Tālaketu.
