यस्मान्मानभिसंधाय सन्यासादिः कृतः सुराः
Because, having resolved with pride, the gods undertook renunciation and the like,
भविता च सुखोदर्के दिव्यभावेन जायताम्
And happiness will arise as a result, being born with a divine nature.
मन्वन्तरेषु संसिद्धाः सप्तस्वाविर्भविष्यथ
In the Manvantaras, you will appear, perfected, in the seven (groups).
एवं च ब्रह्मणा तत्र श्लोको गीतः पुरातनः
And thus, in that place, an ancient verse was sung by Brahma:
एतानि नित्यैः महसा रजोभिर्भूत्वा विभुर्वसते ऽन्यत्प्रशस्तम्
Having become these eternal, great, and passionate ones, the Lord dwells, leaving aside the rest.
वैवस्वतेंऽतरेतीते मत्समीपमिहैष्यथ
When the Vaivasvata Manvantara has passed, you will come to me here.
प्रपन्नाधारणामाद्यां युक्त्वा योगबलान्विताम्
Having attained the primal support, endowed with the power of yoga,
जया इति समाख्याताः कृता एवं विसन्निभाः
They were thus called Jayas, indeed, having such forms.
पुनस्ते तुषिता देवा जाताः स्वारोचिषेंऽतरे
Then, the gods called Tuṣitas were born again in the Svārociṣa Manvantara.
ततः सत्याः स्मृता देवा औत्तमे चान्तरे मनोः
After that, the gods were remembered as Satyas in the Manvantara of Uttama.
हरयोनाम ते देवा यज्ञभाजस्तदाभवन्
Then those gods, called Haris, became recipients of sacrifice.
विकुण्ठायां पुनस्ते वै वरिष्ठा जज्ञिरे सुराः
Again, in the Vikuṇṭha Manvantara, the best gods were born.
ततस्ते वै पुनर्देवा वैकुण्ठाः प्राप्य चाक्षुषम्
Then again, those gods, having attained Vaikuṇṭha, entered the Cākṣuṣa Manvantara.
उपस्थिते पुनः सर्गे मनोर्वैवस्वतस्य ह
When the creation of Manu Vaivasvata arose again,
जज्ञिरे द्वादशादित्या वर्त्तमानेन्तरं सुराः
The twelve Ādityas were born, and with them, the gods of the present Manvantara.
शप्ताः स्वयंभुवा साध्या जज्ञिरे द्वादशामराः
The Sādhyas, having been cursed by Svayambhū, were born as the twelve immortals.
जयानां श्रद्धया युक्तः प्रत्यध्यायं तु गच्छति
One who is endowed with faith in the victories proceeds, indeed, to each lesson.
परिक्रान्ता मया वो ऽद्या किं भूयः श्रोतुमिच्छथ
I have now recounted everything to you; what more do you wish to hear?
सर्पभूतापिशा चानां वसूनां पक्षिवीरुधाम्
Of serpents, spirits, Piśācas, Vasus, birds, and plants—
एवमुक्तस्तदा सूतः प्रत्युवाचर्षिसत्तमम्
Thus addressed, at that time, Sūta replied to the most excellent sage.
कश्यपस्यात्मजौ तौ तु सर्वेभ्यः पूर्वजौ स्मृतौ
Those two sons of Kaśyapa are remembered as the eldest among all.
हिरण्यकशिपुर्नाम प्रथितं पृथगासनम्
Hiraṇyakaśipu by name, renowned, was seated separately.
हिरण्य कशिपुस्तस्मात् कर्मणा तेन स समृतः
Therefore, he became known as Hiraṇyakaśipu because of that deed.
प्रभावं चैव दैत्यस्य विस्ताराद्ब्रूहि नः प्रभो
O lord, tell us in detail the power of that Daitya.
ऋषिभिदेंवताभिश्च गन्धर्वैरुपशोभितः
He was adorned by sages, gods, and Gandharvas.
आसनान्युपकॢप्तानि सौवर्णानि तु पञ्च वै
Five golden seats were indeed arranged.
मुख्यर्त्विजस्तु चत्वारस्तेषां तान्युपकल्पयन्
The four chief priests prepared those seats for them.
निषसाद सगर्भो ऽत्र तत्रासीनः शशंस च
There, he sat down with his consort, and, being seated, he spoke.
तं दृष्ट्वा ऋषयस्तस्य नाम कुर्वन्ति वर्द्धितम्
Seeing him, the sages gave him the name Vardhita.
हिरण्यक्षो ऽनुजस्तस्य सिंहिका तस्य चानुजा
Hiraṇyakṣa was his younger brother, and Siṃhikā was his younger sister.
