When the previous Manvantara has ended and the next one has begun again—
The Seven Sages and Manu, who are established according to time—
For the sake of the festival of the Manvantara and always for the purpose of continuity—
When pairs arise and when medicinal plants have appeared—
When livelihood has commenced and when righteousness has been established—
And in villages and cities where the distinctions of caste and stage of life are absent—
The Seven Sages and Manu are established for the sake of continuity.
Indeed, when the former ones perish here, new ones are born just as before.
Serpents, spirits, ghosts, Gandharvas, Yakshas, and Rakshasas,
The seven sages and Manu, indeed, at the beginning of the Manvantara,
By practicing celibacy, the sages then became free from all debts.
For a hundred thousand years, they remained established in righteousness, according to their order.
Having established their hermitages, they set their minds on heaven.
Those former gods, indeed, remained wholly established in righteousness.
With mantras, they ascend upwards to the sinless Maharloka.
Observing, those self-controlled ones remain until the dissolution of beings.
When the divine abodes in the three worlds are empty, in all those places,
Then, endowed with austerity, they fill the stations again.
The seven sages, Manu, and the gods, together with the ancestors,
Their line of succession is not broken here, even at the end of a Manvantara.
In all the Manvantaras, until the dissolution of beings,
Of the past and future, this has been declared by Svayambhu.
Thus, the continuity of succession is maintained until the dissolution of beings.
Great beings and the ends of people arise exclusively in the Satya age.
In Satya, they remain eternally, but when change comes at the time of re-creation,
Then, through detachment and renunciation of sense objects, they enter only into the god Nārāyaṇa.
The world of living beings does not remain even for a moment, constantly turning through decay and growth.
Having perceived those things moved by the wind, through the union of Vyasa's concise and comprehensive methods, and by divine energy.
The proper cycles are joined with the lords of gods, the seven sages, the ancestors, and the rulers of progeny.
For those who are honored by fame, brilliance, and renown, the merit is indeed the spreading of the dominion of the gods.
