उत्पाद्यग्राहिमश्चैव ते ऽज्ञाने ज्ञानमानिनः
Those who produce and grasp, considering themselves knowledgeable in ignorance.
एकादशन्द्रियविधा नवधात्मादयस्तथा
The eleven kinds of senses, and likewise the ninefold forms of the self.
अन्तः प्रकाशास्ते सर्वे आवृताश्च बहिः पुनः
All of them shine within, yet are covered outwardly again.
तिर्यक् स्रोतस उच्यन्ते वश्यात्मानस्त्रिसंज्ञकाः
Those with transverse currents are called self-controlled, possessing threefold consciousness.
अभिप्रायमथोद्भूतं दृष्ट्वा सर्गं तथाविधम्
Having observed that kind of creation arising from intention.
ऊर्द्धस्रोतस्तृतीयस्तु तद्वै चोर्द्धं व्यवस्थितम्
The third is the upward current, and that is established above.
ताः सुखं प्रीतिबहुला बहिरन्तश्च वावृताः
They are abundant in happiness and delight, covered both outwardly and inwardly.
नवधातादयस्ते वै तुष्टात्मानो बुधाः स्मृताः
Those ninefold forms are remembered as wise, possessing contented selves.
ऊर्द्धस्रोतःसु सृष्टेषु देवेषु स तदा प्रभुः
When the upward-current beings were created among the gods, then the Lord.
सर्गमन्यं सिमृक्षुस्तं साधकं पुनरीश्वरः
The Lord again desired another creation, that which is effective.
प्रादुर्बभौ भौतसर्गः सोर्वाक् स्रोतस्तु साधकः
The elemental creation appeared, effective with the straight current.
ते च प्रकाशबहुलास्तमस्पृष्टरजोधिकाः
They are abundant in illumination, untouched by darkness, predominated by passion.
प्रकाशा बहिरन्तश्च मनुष्याः साधकाश्च ते
Those humans and practitioners are luminous both outwardly and inwardly.
सिद्धात्मानो मनुष्यास्ते गन्धर्वैः सह धर्मिणः
Those humans whose selves are perfected, together with the righteous Gandharvas.
विपर्ययेण शक्त्या च सिद्ध मुख्यास्तथैव च
In reverse order and by their power, likewise the foremost Siddhas.
भूतादिकानां सत्त्वानां षष्ठः सर्गः स उच्यते
This is called the sixth creation, of beings beginning with the elements.
प्रथमो महतः सर्गो विज्ञेयो ब्रह्मणस्तु सः
The first creation of Mahat should be known as that of Brahman.
वैकारिकस्तृतीयस्तु चैद्रियः सर्ग उच्यते
The third is called the Vaikarika, the creation of the senses.
मुख्यसर्गश्च तुर्थस्तु मुख्या वै स्थावराः स्मृताः
The fourth is the principal creation, and the principal beings are considered to be immobile.
तथोर्द्धस्रोतसां सर्गः षष्ठो देवत उच्यते
Thus, the creation of those with upward-flowing streams is called the sixth, that of the deities.
अष्टमोनुग्रहः सर्गः सात्त्विकस्तामसश्च सः
The eighth creation is Anugraha, which is both sattvic and tamasic.
प्राकृतो वैकृतश्चैव कौमारो नवमः स्मृतः
The Prakrita and Vaikrita, and the Kaumara is considered the ninth.
दुद्धिबुर्वाः प्रवर्तेयुस्तद्वर्गा ब्राह्मणास्तु वै
Those of dull intellect proceed, and their group is indeed the Brahmanas.
चतुर्द्धा च स्थितस्सो ऽपि सर्वभूतेषु कृत्स्नशः
Even so, he remains established in fourfold form, completely in all beings.
स्थावरेषु विपर्यासस्तिर्यग्योनिषु शक्तितः
There is inversion among the immobile beings, and in the animal wombs, by their power.
अथो ससर्ज वै ब्रह्मा मानसानात्मनः समान्
Then Brahma indeed created the mind-born, equal to himself.
संबुद्ध्य चैव नामाथो अपवृत्तास्त्रयस्तु ते
And having understood their names, three of them turned away.
ब्रह्मा तेषु व्यरक्तेषु ततो ऽन्यान्सा धकान्सृजन्
When those became indifferent, Brahma then created other practitioners.
अभूतसृष्ट्यवस्था चे स्थानिनस्तान्निबोध मे
Now hear from me about the state of non-creation and those who are established.
स्वर्गो दिशः समुद्राश्च नद्यश्चैव वनस्पतीन्
Heaven, the directions, the oceans, the rivers, and also the trees.
