भलन्दनश्च वत्सश्च संकीलश्चैव ते त्रयः
Bhalandana, Vatsa, and Saṃkīla—these three.
ब्राह्यणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्या ऋषिपुत्रान्निबोधत
Now learn of the Brāhmaṇas, Kṣatriyas, and Vaiśyas who are sons of sages.
ब्राह्यणानां प्रवक्तारो नामतश्च निबोधत
Hear also the names of the teachers among the Brāhmaṇas.
बह्वृचो भार्गवः पैलः सांकृत्यो जाजलिस्तथा
Bahvṛca, Bhārgava, Paila, Sāṃkṛtya, and Jājali as well.
उपमन्युरिन्द्रप्रमतिर्माडूकिः शाकलिश्च सः
Upamanyu, Indrapramati, Māḍūki, and Śākali.
पन्नगाः पक्षगन्ताश्च षडशीतिः श्रुतर्षयः
Pannagas and Pakṣagantas, eighty-six renowned seers.
वैशंपायनलौहित्यौ कण्ठकालावशावधः
Vaiśaṃpāyana, Lauhitya, Kaṇṭhaka, Kālāva, and Śāvadha.
तेषां शिष्याः प्रशिष्याश्च षडशीति श्रुतर्षयः
Their disciples and grand-disciples—eighty-six renowned seers.
चैमिनिः सभरद्वाजः काव्यः पौष्यञ्जिरेव च
Caimini, Sabharadvāja, Kāvyā, and also Pauṣyañji.
लङ्गली शालिहोत्रश्च शक्तिराजश्च भार्गवः
Laṅgalī, Śālihotra, and Śaktirāja Bhārgava.
षट्चत्वारिंशदन्ये वै तेषां शिष्याः श्रुतर्षयः
Forty-six others, their disciples, renowned seers.
लोभालोभश्च धर्मात्मा तथा ब्रह्म बलश्च सः
Lobhālobha, who is righteous, as well as Brahma and Bala.
इत्येते नवतिर्ज्ञेया होत्रवद्ब्रह्मचारिणः
Thus, these ninety should be understood as brahmacārins, like the hotṛ priest.
चलूभिः सुमतिश्चैव तथा देववरश्च यः
Calū, Sumati, and likewise Devavara are included.
तथाप्रीतः कृशाश्वश्व सुमूलिर्बाष्कलिस्तथा
Tathāprīta, Kṛśāśva, Sumūli, and Bāṣkali as well.
वैयासकिः शुको विद्वांल्लौकिर्भूरिश्रवास्तथा
Vaiyāsaki, Śuka the learned, Lauki, and Bhūriśravā likewise.
आरण्या इलकश्चैव उपमन्युर्विदस्तथा
Āraṇya, Ilaka, Upamanyu, and Vidas are also included.
प्रजादर्पः कहोडश्च याज्ञवल्क्यो ऽथ शौनकः
Prajādarpa, Kahoḍa, Yājñavalkya, and Śaunaka.
अदितिर्देवमाता च जलापा चैव मानवी
Aditi, the mother of the gods, Jalāpā, and Mānavī.
मुद्गला चातुजीवैव तारा चैव यशस्विनी
Mudgalā, Atujīva, Tārā, and Yaśasvinī.
लोपामुद्रा च धर्मज्ञा या च कोशीतिका स्मृता
Lopāmudrā, who knows dharma, and Kośītikā as remembered.
इत्येता मुख्यशः प्रोक्ता मया च ऋषिपुत्रकाः
Thus, the chief sons of sages have been spoken by me.
ईश्वरा मन्त्रवक्तार ऋषयो ह्यृषिकास्तथा
The lords, the speakers of mantras, the sages, and the female sages as well.
ईश्वराणामृषीणां च ऋषिकाणां सहात्मजैः
The lords, the sages, and the female sages, together with their sons.
तत्राज्ञायुक्तमद्वैतं दीप्तं गंभीरशब्दवत्
There, the nondual teaching is joined with authority, shining, and possessing profound sound.
सर्वभूतान्यभूतं च परिदानं च यद्भवेत्
Whatever may be the offering, which is not among all beings, and whatever is given.
यत्किञ्चिन्मन्त्रसंयुक्तं तत्र नामविभक्तिभिः
Whatever is joined with mantras there, with distinctions of names.
नैगमैर्विविधैः शब्दैर्निपातैर्बहुलं च यत्
Whatever is abundant with various words, usages, and many insertions.
अविस्पष्टपदं यच्च यच्च स्याद्बहुसंशयम्
Whatever is unclear in wording, and whatever is full of many doubts.
हेतुदृष्टान्त बहुलं चित्रशब्दमपार्थकम्
Whatever is abundant in causes and examples, with varied words and without meaning.
