Some remain here for the establishment of dharma after the end of the age.
Just as, by heat, grass scorched by wildfire here revives,
So too, among the people of Kṛta Yuga, there is the emergence of those born in Kali.
This continues without interruption until the end of a Manvantara.
In each age, these diminish by three-fourths, successively.
O twice-born, thus have I described this cycle of transition.
This cycle of four ages, multiplied a thousandfold, is thus.
Here, straightforwardness becomes dulled among beings at the end of the age.
This, multiplied by the four ages, is indeed seventy-one.
Just as in one cycle of four ages, whatever occurs here, so it is.
In each creation, likewise, distinctions arise in the same manner.
This is the characteristic of all the Manvantaras.
Thus, the world of living beings does not remain, constantly changing through decline and rise.
Thus, the characteristics of the ages have been stated in summary.
By one Manvantara, indeed, all intervals are encompassed.
For those yet to come, likewise, reasoning should be applied by the wise.
All those who are equally esteemed indeed exist with names and forms.
The sages and Manus, too, are all equal in purpose.
The Lord always establishes the nature of the ages accordingly.
I shall describe in detail and sequence the existence in the ages here.

This is considered their natural measure.
The measure of Devas and Asuras is said to be seventy-seven finger-widths.
The measure of Devas and Asuras is remembered as their height in the Kali age.
With his own finger as the measure, from the feet up to the head,
In all the ages of the world, in the past and future, here,

He whose body from the soles of the feet to the crown of the head measures ninety tālas,
