अनन्तबलवीर्याय भूतानां पतये नमः
Salutations to the lord of beings, of infinite strength and power.
गङ्गा सलिलधाराय चाधाराय गुणात्मने
To the Ganga, the stream of water, the support, the embodiment of qualities.
कन्दर्पाय नमस्तुभ्यं नमो ऽस्तु परमात्मने
Salutations to you, O Kāma, salutations to the supreme self.
दण्डहस्ताय कालाय पाशहस्ताय वै नमः
Salutations to the one with the staff in hand, to Time, and to the one with the noose in hand.
भूतं भव्यं भविष्यच्च स्थावरं चङ्गमं च यत्
Whatever is past, present, or future, whatever is stationary or moving—
शेभो पाहि च भद्रं ते प्रसीद भगवंस्ततः
May you be auspicious; protect us, may good fortune be yours; be gracious, O Lord.
तत्सर्वं भगवानेव कुरुते योगमायया
All this, indeed, is accomplished by the Lord through the power of yoga and illusion.
याचन्ते तपसा युक्ताः पश्यामस्त्त्वां यथा पुरा
Those engaged in austerity beseech you; may we behold you as before.
नमो दिग्वाससे नित्यं किङ्किणीजालमालिने
Salutations to you who are ever clad in the directions, adorned with a garland of bells.
अरूपाय सुरूपाय विश्वरूपाय ते नमः
Salutations to you who are formless, beautiful, and whose form is the universe.
सर्वप्राणात्मने तुभ्यं गुणदेहाय वै नमः
Salutations to you, the soul of all living beings, whose body is composed of qualities.
नीलकण्ठाय देवाय चिताभस्माङ्गरागिणे
Salutations to the divine blue-throated one, whose limbs are smeared with ashes from the pyre.
श्मशानवासिने नित्यं प्रेतरूपाय वै नमः
Salutations to you who dwell always in the cremation ground, who assume the form of spirits.
आत्मा च सर्वभूतानां सांख्यैः पुरुष उच्यते
The soul of all beings is called 'puruṣa' by the Sāṅkhya philosophers.
ऋषीणां च वसिष्ठस्त्वं देवानां वासवस्तथा
Among sages, you are Vasiṣṭha; among gods, you are Vāsava.
आरण्यानां च सर्वेषां सिंहस्त्वं परमेश्वरः
Among all forest creatures, you are the lion, O Supreme Lord.
सर्वथा वर्त्तमानो ऽपि योयो भावो भविष्यति
Whatever state exists, or will exist, in any manner—
कामः क्रोधश्च लोभश्च विषादो मद एव च
Desire, anger, greed, dejection, and intoxication—
महासंहरणे प्राप्ते त्वया देव कृतात्मना
When the great dissolution arrives, O God, you, having become the Self, bring it about.
तेनाग्निना तदा लोका अर्चिर्भिः सर्वतो वृताः
Then, by that fire, the worlds are enveloped everywhere by flames.
यानि चान्यानिभूतानि स्थावराणि चराणि च
And whatever other beings exist, stationary or moving—
अस्माकं दह्यमानानां त्राता भव सुरेश्वर
O Lord of the gods, be our protector as we are being consumed.
महेश्वर महाभाग प्रभो शुभनिरीक्षक
O great Lord Maheśvara, master of auspicious vision.
रूपकोटिसहस्रेषु रूपकोटिशतेषु च
Among thousands of millions of forms, and among hundreds of millions of forms.
ततस्तु भगवानीश इदं वचनमब्रवीत्
Then the blessed Lord spoke these words.
यथोक्तकारिणो दान्ता विप्रा ध्यानपरायणाः
Those who act as instructed, who are restrained, and who are devoted to meditation, O Brāhmans.
न चेमानप्रियं ब्रूयादमुत्रेह हितार्थवान्
Let them not speak what is displeasing here or elsewhere, but always speak for the welfare of others.
एवं चरथ भद्रं वो मत्तः सिद्धिमवाप्स्यथ
Act in this way; may good fortune be yours. From me, you will attain perfection.
अपगतभयलोभमोहचिन्ताः सह पतिताः महसा शिरोभिरूहुः
Freed from fear, greed, delusion, and anxiety, they bowed together with their heads in radiance.
गन्धोदकैः सुशुद्धैश्च कुशपुष्पविमिश्रितैः
With pure scented water, mixed with sacred grass and flowers.
