ऋषीणां चापि सप्तानां ध्रुव ऊर्द्ध्वं व्यवस्थितः
And above the seven sages, Dhruva is established.
ताराग्रहान्तराणि स्युरुपरिष्टाद्यथाक्रमम्
The spaces between stars and planets are arranged above, in order.
नित्यमृक्षेषु युज्यन्ते गच्छन्तो नियताः क्रमात्
They are always joined to the signs, moving in a fixed sequence.
समागमे च भेदे च पश्यन्ति युगपत्प्रजाः
People observe their conjunctions and separations simultaneously.
असंकरेण विज्ञेयस्तेषां योगस्तु वै बुधैः
Without confusion, their conjunction is understood by the wise.
द्विपानामुदधीनां च पर्वतानां त्थैव च
Of islands, oceans, and mountains likewise,
एतेष्वेव ग्रहाः सर्वे नक्षत्रेषु समुत्थिताः
All these planets arise among these stars.
विशाखासु समुत्पन्नो ग्रहाणां प्रथमो ग्रहः
In Viśākhā, the first of the planets is born.
शीतरश्मिः समुत्पन्नः कृत्तिकासु निशाकरः
The cool-rayed one, the Moon, is born in Kṛttikā.
ताराग्रहाणां प्रवरस्तिष्यऋक्षे समुत्थितः
The foremost of stars and planets arises in the Tishya sign.
फाल्गुनीषु समुत्पन्नः पूर्वासु च जगद्गुरुः
In the Pūrvā Phālgunī, the teacher of the world is born.
आषाढास्विह पूर्वासु समुत्पन्न इति श्रुतिः
In the Pūrvā Āṣāḍhā, it is said, the birth occurs.
सौम्यो बुधो धनिष्ठासु पञ्चार्चिरुदितो ग्रहः
Mercury, the gentle planet, arises in Dhaniṣṭhā, shining with fivefold brilliance.
आर्श्लेषासु समुत्पन्नः सर्वहारी महाग्रहः
In Ārśleṣā, the great planet, destroyer of all, is born.
तमोवीर्यमयो राहुः प्रकृत्या कृष्णमण्डलः
Rahu is composed of the essence of darkness, and by nature is a black sphere.
एते तारा ग्रहाश्चापि बोद्धव्या भार्गवादयः
These stars and planets, including Bhargava and others, must be understood.
स्पृश्यन्ते तेन दोषेण ततस्तद्ग्रहभक्तितः
They are affected by that fault, and thus, according to their planetary division.
ताराग्रहाणां शुक्रस्तु केतूनामपि धूमवान्
Among stars and planets, Venus is prominent; among comets, the smoky one.
नक्षत्राणां श्रविष्ठा स्यादयनानां तथोत्तरम्
Among the constellations, Śraviṣṭhā is foremost, and among solstices, the northern.
ऋतूनां शिशिरश्चापि मासानां माघ एव च
Among the seasons, it is winter; among the months, Māgha.
अहोरात्रविभागानामहश्चापि प्रकीर्तितम्
Among the divisions of day and night, the day is declared.
क्षणश्चापि निमेषादिः कालः कालविदां वराः
Among moments, the instant and the blink, these are time, O best of those who know time.
भानोर्गतिविशेषेण चक्रवत्परिवर्त्तते
By the special motion of the sun, it revolves like a wheel.
चतुर्विधानां भूतानां प्रवर्त्तकनिवर्त्तकः
It is the initiator and terminator of the four kinds of beings.
इत्येष ज्योतिषामेव संनिवेशोर्ऽथनिश्चयात्
Thus, this arrangement of the luminaries is established by certainty of purpose.
उत्तराश्रवणेनासौ संक्षिप्तश्च ध्रुवे तथा
By the northern Śravaṇa, it is also condensed and fixed in the pole.
बुद्धिबूर्वं भागवता कल्पदौ संप्रवर्त्तितः
Previously, the wise ones, at the beginning of the kalpa, set forth this arrangement.
वैश्वरूपप्रधानस्य परिणामो ऽयमद्भुतः
This is the wondrous transformation of the principal universal form.
गतागतं मनुष्येण ज्योतिषां सांसचक्षुषा
The coming and going of the luminaries is observed by humans with their physical eyes.
परिक्ष्य निपुणं बुद्ध्या श्रद्धातव्यं विपश्चिता
Examined carefully with intelligence, it should be trusted by the wise.
