जैवं बृहस्पतिश्चैव लौहितं चैव लोहितः
Jaiva is Bṛhaspati, and Lauhita is Lohita.
बौधं बुधो ऽथ स्वर्भानुः स्वर्भानुस्थानमास्थितः
Baudha is Budha, and Svarbhānu is Svarbhānu, established in his place.
गृहाण्येतानि सर्वाणि ज्योतींषि सुकृतात्म नाम्
O virtuous one, accept all these luminous bodies.
स्थानान्येतानि तिष्ठन्ति यावदात्रूतसंप्लवम्
These positions remain until the dissolution of the elements here.
अभिमानिनो ऽवतिष्ठन्ते देवस्थानानि वै पुनः
Those who are proud again occupy the divine stations.
अस्मिन्मन्वन्तरे चैव ग्रहा वैतानिकाः स्मृताः
In this Manvantara, the planets are known as Vaitānika.
त्विषिनामा धर्मसुतः सोमो देवो वसुः स्मृतः
Among the radiant ones, Dharmasuta, Soma, and Vasu are regarded as gods.
बृहत्तेजाः स्मृतो देवो देवाचार्यो ऽगि रस्सुतः
The god of great brilliance is remembered as the divine teacher, son of Agni.
शनैश्चरो विरूपस्तु संज्ञापुत्रो विवस्वतः
Śanaiścara, the deformed one, is the son of Saṃjñā and Vivasvat.
नक्षत्राण्यृक्षनामानो दाक्षायण्यस्तु ताः स्मृताः
The stars, called ṛkṣa, are remembered as daughters of Dakṣa.
सोमर्क्षग्रहसूर्येषु कीर्त्तिता ह्यभिमानिनः
The proud ones are mentioned among the Moon, star, planet, and Sun.
शुक्लमग्निमयं स्थानं सहस्रांशोर्विवस्वतः
The abode of Vivasvat, the thousand-rayed one, is white and made of fire.
आप्यं श्यामं मनोज्ञस्य पञ्चरश्मेर्गृहं स्मृतम्
The house of the charming five-rayed one is watery and dark.
नवरश्मेस्तु भौमस्य लौहितं स्थानमम्मयम्
The abode of Bhauma, with nine rays, is iron and red.
अषृ रश्मिगृहं प्रोक्तं कृष्णं मन्दस्य चाम्मयम्
The house of Mandā, with eight rays, is said to be black and iron.
विज्ञेयास्तारकाः सर्वा अम्मयास्त्त्वे करश्मयः
All the stars should be understood as iron, and their rays are made of hands.
घनतोयात्मिका ज्ञेयाः कल्पादावेव निर्मिताः
They should be known as dense and watery in nature, created at the beginning of the kalpa.
नवयोजनसाहस्रो विष्कंभः सवितुः स्मृतः
The axis of Savitṛ is said to be nine thousand yojanas.
द्विगुणः सूर्यविस्ताराद्विस्तारः शशिनः स्मृतः
The extent of the moon is said to be twice that of the sun.
उद्धृत्य पृथिवीछायां निर्मितो मण्डलाकृतिः
Having taken the shadow of the earth, a circular form is fashioned.
आदित्यात्तच्च निष्क्रम्य सोमं गच्छति पर्वसु
Emerging from the sun, it reaches the moon during the phases.
स्वर्भासा नुदते यस्मात्तस्मात्स्वर्भानुरुच्यते
Because it drives away the radiance of the heavens, it is called Svarbhanu.
विष्कंभान्मण्डलाच्चैव योजनाग्रात्प्रमाणतः
From the supports and the circles, the measurement is taken from the tip of the yojana.
बृहस्पतेः पाद हीनौ भौमसौरावुभौ स्मृतौ
Both Mars and Saturn are remembered as being deficient by a quarter compared to Jupiter.
तारानक्षत्ररूपाणि वपुष्मन्ति च यानि वै
Those forms which are stars and constellations, indeed, possess bodies.
प्रायशश्चन्द्रयोगीनि विद्यादृक्षाणि तत्त्ववित्
One knowledgeable in truth should know that most of the stars are associated with the moon.
शतानि पञ्च चत्वारि त्रीणि द्वे चैव योजने
Five hundred, four, three, and two yojanas, indeed.
योजनाद्यर्द्धमात्राणि तेभ्यो ह्रस्वं न विद्यते
Half and fractional measures from the yojana; nothing less is known among them.
सौरोङ्गिराश्च वक्रश्च ज्ञेया मन्दविचारिणः
Mars, Saturn, and the retrograde planets are to be understood as moving slowly.
सूर्यसोमौ बुधश्चैव भार्गवश्चैव शीघ्रगाः
The sun, moon, Mercury, and Venus are swift-moving.
