त्वष्टा विष्णुर्जामदग्न्यो विश्वामित्रस्तथैव च
Tvaṣṭā, Viṣṇu, Jāmadagnya, and Viśvāmitra likewise.
गन्धर्वो धृतराष्ट्रश्च सूर्यवर्चास्तथैव च
The Gandharva Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Sūryavarcas likewise.
यज्ञापेतम्तथैवान्यो विश्यातो राक्षसो त्तमः
Yajñāpetam and another, Viśyāta, the foremost Rākṣasa.
तपस्तपस्ययोः सूर्ये वसंति मुनिसत्तमाः
The eminent sages Tapas and Tapasyā dwell in the sun.
परिवर्त्तत्यहोरात्रकारणं सविता द्विजाः
Savitar causes the turning of day and night, O twice-born.
स्थानाभिमानिनो ह्येते गाणा द्वादशसप्तकाः
These are the twelve and seven groups, each with their own domain.
ग्रथितैः स्वैर्वचोभिश्च स्तुवन्ति ह्यृषयो रविम्
The sages praise the sun with their own composed words.
ग्रामणीयक्षभूतानि कुर्वते ऽभीषुसंग्रहम्
Those who are Grāmaṇī, Yakṣa, and Bhūta assemble for the collection of offerings.
वालखिल्या नंयत्यस्तं परिवार्योदयाद्रविम्
The Vālakhilyas surround the setting sun and the rising sun.
यथाधर्मं यथायोगं यथासत्यं यथाबलम्
According to righteousness, according to propriety, according to truth, according to strength.
इत्येते निवसंतीह द्वौ द्वौ मासौ दिवाकरे
Thus, these reside here, two by two months, in the sun.
ग्रामण्यश्च तथा यक्षा यातुधानाश्च मुख्यशः
And likewise the Grāmaṇyas, Yakṣas, and chief Yātudhānas.
भूतानां चशुभं कर्म व्यपोहन्ति प्रकीर्त्तिताः
It is declared that they remove the inauspicious deeds of beings.
दुरितं सुप्रचाराणां व्यपोहन्ति क्वचि त्क्वचित्
They remove misfortune for those who act well, here and there.
वर्षन्तश्च तपन्तश्च ह्लादयन्तश्च वै प्रजाः
They cause rain, heat, and delight for the creatures.
स्थानाभिमानिनामेतत्स्थानं मन्वन्तरेषु वै
This is the station of those who are proud of their place, indeed, in the Manvantaras.
चतुर्दशसु सर्वेषु गणा मन्वन्तरेष्विह
All the groups exist here in the fourteen Manvantaras.
गच्छत्यसावृतुवशात्परिवृत्तरश्मिर्देवान् पितॄ#ंश्च मनुजांश्च हि तर्पयन्वै
This one moves according to the seasons, with revolving rays, nourishing gods, ancestors, and humans.
शुक्ले तु पूर्णं दिवसक्रमेण तं कृष्णपक्षे विबुधाः पिबन्ति
In the bright fortnight, the full day, in order, the gods drink it; in the dark fortnight.
सुधामृतं तत्पितरः पिबन्ति देवाश्च सौम्याश्च तथैव काव्याः
The ancestors drink that nectar, and so do the gods, the gentle ones, and the Kāvyas likewise.
वृष्ट्याभिवृद्धाभिरथौषधीभिर्मर्त्याः क्षुधं त्वन्नपानैर्जयन्ति
Mortals, increased by rain and by herbs, overcome hunger with food and drink.
अन्नेन शश्वच्च दधाति मर्त्यान्सुर्यस्तपंस्तान्सुबिभर्त्ति गोभिः
The sun continually gives food to mortals, sustaining them with heat and with cows.
विसर्गकाले विसृजंश्च ताः पुनर्बिभर्त्ति शश्वत्सविता चराचरम्
At the time of release, Savitā again continually supports all that moves and does not move.
ततः प्रमुञ्चत्यपि तास्त्वसौ हरिः समूह्यमानो हरिभिस्तुरङ्गमैः
Then, he releases them; that Hari, being gathered by swift horses.
भद्रैस्तैरक्रमैरश्वैः स्पन्दने वैदिकक्षयः
With those auspicious, unblemished horses, the Vedic movement is accomplished.
सप्तद्वीपसमुद्रान्तां सप्तभिः सप्तभिर्हयैः
With seven horses, he traverses the seven continents and oceans.
कामरूपैः सकृद्युक्तैर्वामतस्तैर्मनोजवैः
With those who possess forms at will, swift as the mind, harnessed on the left side at once,
त्र्यशीतिमण्डलशतं भ्रमन्त्यब्देन ते हयाः
Those horses circle eighty-three hundred orbs in a year.
कल्पादौ संप्र युक्तास्ते वहन्त्याभूतसंप्लवात्
At the beginning of the kalpa, harnessed thus, they carry him until the great dissolution.
वचोभिरग्र्यैर्ग्रथितैः स्तूयमानो महर्षिभिः
