उद्वेषाटयन्स वेगेन मण्डलानि तु गच्छति
He moves rapidly, traversing the circles with force.
गन्धर्वैरप्सरोभिश्च ग्रामणीसर्पराक्षसैः
By Gandharvas, Apsarases, chiefs, serpents, and Rākṣasas,
धातार्ऽयमा पुलस्त्यश्च पुलहश्च प्रजापतिः
Dhātā, Aryaman, Pulastya, Pulaha, and Prajāpati,
रथकृच्च रथौजाश्च यक्षावेतावुदा त्दृतौ
Rathakṛt and Rathaujā, and Yakṣas—these are declared.
रक्षो हेतिः प्रहेतिश्च यातुधानावुदाहृतौ
Rakṣa, Heti, Praheti, and Yātudhānas are mentioned.
मित्रश्च वरुणश्चैव मुनिरत्रिरुदाहृतः
Mitra and Varuṇa, and the sage Atri are named.
राक्षसौ च समाख्यातौ पौरुषेयो वधस्तथा
Two Rākṣasas are also known, as well as the Pauruṣeya weapon.
रथचित्रस्तथैवान्यो नागसाक्षकसंज्ञेतः
Rathacitra and another, known as Nāgasākṣaka.
ततः सूर्ये पुनस्त्वन्या निवसंतीह देवताः
Then, again, other deities dwell here in the Sun.
एलापत्रस्तथा सर्पः शङ्खपालाश्च तावुभौ
Elāpatra, likewise a serpent, and both Śaṅkhapāla.
प्रम्लोचा इति विख्यातानुम्लोचेति च ते उभे
Pramlocā and Anumlocā are both renowned by these names.
नभोनभस्ययोरेष गाणो वसति भास्करे
This group dwells in the sun, belonging to the sky and the celestial regions.
पर्जन्यश्चैव पूषा च भारद्वाजः सगौतमः
Parjanya, Pūṣā, Bhāradvāja, and Gautama are among them.
विश्वाची च घृताची च उभे ते शुभलक्षणे
Viśvācī and Ghṛtācī, both possessing auspicious marks, are included.
श्चेनजिच्च सुषेणश्च सेनीर्ग्राम णीश्च तौ
Ścenajit, Suṣeṇa, Senī, and Grāmaṇī are those two.
वसंत्येते तु वै सूर्ये सदैवाश्विनकर्तिके
These all reside in the sun, always during the months of Āśvina and Kārtika.
अंशो भगश्च द्वावैतौ कश्यपश्य क्रतुश्च ह
Aṃśa and Bhaga, both, as well as Kaśyapa and Kratu.
चित्रसेनश्च गन्धर्व ऊर्णायुश्चैव तावुभौ
Citrāsena the Gandharva, and Ūrṇāyu, these two as well.
तार्क्षश्चारिष्टनेमिश्च सेनानीर् ग्रामणीश्च तौ
Tārkṣa and Ariṣṭanemi, Senānī and Grāmaṇī, these two.
सहे चैव सहस्ये च वसंत्येते दिवाकरे
Sahe and Sahasya, these all reside in the sun.
त्वष्टा विष्णुर्जामदग्न्यो विश्वामित्रस्तथैव च
Tvaṣṭā, Viṣṇu, Jāmadagnya, and Viśvāmitra likewise.
गन्धर्वो धृतराष्ट्रश्च सूर्यवर्चास्तथैव च
The Gandharva Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Sūryavarcas likewise.
यज्ञापेतम्तथैवान्यो विश्यातो राक्षसो त्तमः
Yajñāpetam and another, Viśyāta, the foremost Rākṣasa.
तपस्तपस्ययोः सूर्ये वसंति मुनिसत्तमाः
The eminent sages Tapas and Tapasyā dwell in the sun.
परिवर्त्तत्यहोरात्रकारणं सविता द्विजाः
Savitar causes the turning of day and night, O twice-born.
स्थानाभिमानिनो ह्येते गाणा द्वादशसप्तकाः
These are the twelve and seven groups, each with their own domain.
ग्रथितैः स्वैर्वचोभिश्च स्तुवन्ति ह्यृषयो रविम्
The sages praise the sun with their own composed words.
ग्रामणीयक्षभूतानि कुर्वते ऽभीषुसंग्रहम्
Those who are Grāmaṇī, Yakṣa, and Bhūta assemble for the collection of offerings.
वालखिल्या नंयत्यस्तं परिवार्योदयाद्रविम्
The Vālakhilyas surround the setting sun and the rising sun.
यथाधर्मं यथायोगं यथासत्यं यथाबलम्
According to righteousness, according to propriety, according to truth, according to strength.
