आनुपूर्व्याद्विधिः कृत्स्नः पुष्करस्य प्रकीर्त्तितः
Thus, the complete order of Puṣkara has been described in sequence.
विस्तारान्मण्डलाच्चैव पुष्करस्य समेन तु
And in extent and in circle, equal to Puṣkara,
द्वीपस्यानन्तरो यस्तु सामुद्रस्तत्समस्तु सः
The region next to that continent is called Sāmudra, and it is just as vast.
अपां चैव समुद्रेकात्सामुद्र इति संज्ञितः
Because it is filled with water, it is known as Sāmudra.
तस्माद्वर्षमिति प्रोक्तं प्रजानां सुखदं यतः
Therefore, it is called 'rain' because it brings happiness to living beings.
रतिप्रबधनात्मिद्धं वर्षं तत्तेषु तेन वै
Rain, ignited by the essence of pleasure and increase, arises among them in this way.
प्रक्षीयमाणे बहुले क्षीयते ऽस्तमिते खगे
When it diminishes greatly, it wanes as the bird sets.
तथोपक्षीयमाणे ऽपि स्वात्मन्येवावकृष्यते
Likewise, when it is reduced, it is drawn back into its own nature.
महोदधिगतं तोयं स्वत उद्रिच्यते तथा
Just as water in the great ocean rises up by itself.
उदयास्तमये त्विन्दौ पक्षयोः शुक्लकृष्णयोः
At sunrise and sunset, during the bright and dark fortnights.
दशोत्तराणि पञ्चैव ह्यङ्गुलानि शतानि च
There are one hundred and fifteen angulas, indeed.
द्विराप्कत्वात्स्मृता द्वीपाः सर्वतश्चोदकावृताः
Because they are surrounded by water on all sides, they are called 'islands.'
अपर्वाणस्तु गिरयः पर्वभिः पर्वताः स्मृताः
Mountains that are not the highest are remembered as ranges among the mountains.
शाल्मलिः शाल्मले द्वीपे पूज्यते सुमहाव्रतैः
The Śālmalī tree is worshipped on the Śālmalī island by those of great vows.
क्रैञ्चद्वीपे गिरिः कैञ्चो मध्ये जनपदस्य ह
On the Krañca island, the mountain called Kaiñca stands in the middle of the region.
न्यग्रोधः पुष्करद्वीपे तत्रत्यैः स नमस्कृतः
The Nyagrodha tree is honored on the Puṣkara island by its inhabitants.
तस्मिन्नि वसति ब्रह्मा साध्यैः सार्द्धं प्रजापतिः
There, Brahmā dwells together with the Sādhyas, the lord of creatures.
स तत्र पूज्यते चैव देवेर्देवोतमोतमः
He is worshipped there as the highest among gods, superior to all other deities.
द्वीपेषु तेषु सर्वेषु प्रजानां क्रमतस्तु वै
In all those islands, the generations of beings proceed in order.
आरोग्ययुःप्रमाणाभ्यां प्रमाणं द्विगुणं ततः
With health and lifespan as measures, their measure is twice as much thereafter.
गोपायति प्रजास्तत्र स्वयंभूर्जड पण्डिताः
There, the self-born protects the beings, both dull and wise.
स विष्णोः सचिवो देवः स पिता स पितामहः
He is the counselor of Viṣṇu, the god, the father, and the grandfather.
षड्रसं सुमहावीर्यं भुञ्जते तु प्रजाः सदा
The creatures always partake of the six tastes, which are of great potency.
स्वादूदकः समुद्रस्तु समन्तात्परिवेष्ट्य तम्
The ocean, filled with sweet water, completely surrounds it on all sides.
काञ्चनी द्विगुणा भूमिः सर्वाह्येकशिलोपमा
The golden earth, twice as large, is like a single solid stone throughout.
प्रकाशश्चाप्रकाशश्च लोकालोकः स उच्यते
That is called Lokāloka, being both luminous and non-luminous.
योजनानां सहस्राणि दश तस्योच्छ्रयः समृतः
Its height is said to be ten thousand yojanas.
आलोको लोकवृत्तिस्थो निरालोको ह्यलौकिकः
The luminous part is where the worlds exist; the non-luminous is indeed beyond the worlds.
लोकविस्तारमात्रं तु ह्यलोकः सर्वतो बहिः
The non-luminous region lies entirely outside the extent of the worlds.
आलोकात्परतश्चापि ह्यण्डमा वृत्य तिष्ठति
Beyond the luminous region, the cosmic egg stands, enveloping all.
