The enmity of Parāśara towards the sage Viśvāmitra is described.
By the will of the god, for the benefit of Viśvāmitra, O Brāhmaṇa, this was done.
The Lord divided the single Veda, which had four parts, into four.
By his disciples and their disciples, countless branches of the Veda were made.
Those distinguished sages, desiring righteousness, questioned further.
Sunābha, resembling a divine form, with seven limbs and auspicious praise—
Having gone behind him in order, you will then receive the recitation.
That land is to be considered holy; at that time, the Lord replied.
The Gaṅgā, the Garbha, the Yavāhāra, and likewise the Naimiṣeyas—
At that time, the sages in Naimiṣa performed a sacrifice as prescribed.
And the sages of Naimiṣa were endowed with supreme compassion.
At that time, they duly honored the king as a guest and showed him affection.
When the king departed, the other kings and sages also withdrew.
Then again, a gathering was held there by the great sages for the sacrifice.
At that time, during the twelve-year sacrificial session of the sages of Naimisha,
Having begotten Tvaraṇya, the son of Yadu, along with ten thousand others,
Thus, the enumeration of topics and the summary of the Purāṇas have been described.
The essence, even of the great subject, is indicated here in brief for ease.
Whoever studies this first section properly, with senses subdued,
And whoever knows the four Vedas with their appendages and Upanishads, O twice-born,
The Veda fears the one of little learning, thinking, 'He will strike me down.'
Having attained this section, one should not be deluded and will obtain the desired path.
Whoever knows its etymology is freed from all sins.
Even at the time of dissolution, it creates a path; at the time of destruction, there is no return.
Where was the sacrificial session held by those of wondrous deeds?
And how did the wise one recount the Purāṇa there?
Thus urged, Sūta spoke auspicious words in reply.
For as long as it lasted, and in what manner it was conducted,
That sacrificial session of theirs was exceedingly meritorious and lasted a thousand years.
There, Iḍā became the wife, and Śāmitra, the wise one, was present.
