चतुस्त्रिंशत्सहस्राणि गन्धमादनपर्वतः
Gandhamadana mountain is thirty-four thousand (units) in extent.
चत्वारिंशत्सहस्राणि परिवृद्धो महीतलात्
It has grown to forty thousand (units) from the surface of the earth.
पूर्वेण माल्यवाञ्छैलस्तत्प्रमाणः प्रकीर्त्तितः
To the east lies the Malyavan mountain, said to be of equal measure.
तेषां मध्ये महामेरुः स्वैः प्रमाणैः प्रतिष्ठितः
Among them, the great Meru stands established with its own dimensions.
विस्तरस्तत्प्रमाणः स्यादायामो नियुतं स्मृतः
Its breadth is of the same measure; its length is said to be one niyuta.
आयामाः परिहीयन्ते चतुरस्रसमाः स्मृताः
The lengths decrease, and they are remembered as being square in shape.
प्रभिन्नाञ्जनसंकाशा जम्बूरसवती नदी
The Jambu river, rich in water, appears broken and dark like collyrium.
सुदर्शनो नाम महाञ्जम्बूवृक्षः सनातनः
There is a great, eternal Jambu tree named Sudarshana.
तस्य नाम्ना समा ख्यातो जम्बूद्वीपो वनस्पतेः
By the name of that tree, the land is renowned as Jambudvipa.
उत्सेधो वृक्षराजस्य दिवं स्पृशति सर्वतः
The height of the king of trees reaches the sky in all directions.
फलप्रमाणं संख्यातमृषिभिस्तत्त्वदर्शिभिः
The measure of its fruit has been counted by the sages who see the truth.
तस्या जम्ब्वाः फलरसो नदी भूत्वा प्रसर्प्पति
The juice of its fruit becomes a river and flows forth.
तं पिबन्ति सदा त्दृष्टा जंबूरसमिलावृते
Those who are seen near the Jambu tree always drink it.
न क्षुधा न श्रमश्चापि न मृत्युर्न च तन्द्रि तम्
There, neither hunger nor fatigue nor death nor drowsiness occurs.
इन्द्रगोपकसंकाशं जायते भास्वरं तु तत्
It becomes radiant, resembling the color of indragopas (red insects).
स्कन्नं भवति तच्छुभ्रं कनकं देवभूषणम्
When it drips, it turns bright and pure, like gold, the ornament of the gods.
ईश्वरानुग्रहाद्भूमिर्मृताश्च ग्रसते तु तान्
By the grace of the Lord, the earth consumes those who have died.
हेमकूटे तु गन्धर्वा विज्ञेयाः साप्सरोगणाः
On Hemakuta, the Gandharvas are to be known, together with their groups of Apsaras.
महामेरौ त्रयस्त्रिंशत्क्रीडन्ते यज्ञियाः सुराः
On Mount Meru, thirty-three divine gods, worthy of sacrifice, sport and play.
दैत्यानां दानवानां चर् श्वेतः पर्वत उच्यते
Among the Daityas and Dānavas, the mountain called Śveta is renowned.
नवस्वेतेषु वर्षेषु यथाभागं स्थितेषु वै
In the nine Śveta regions, each is established according to its own portion.
न संख्या परिसंख्यातुं श्रद्धेया तु बुभूषताम्
Their number cannot be reckoned; it is credible only to those who truly seek to know.
तस्मिन्निवसति श्रीमान्कुबेरः सह राक्षसैः
There dwells the illustrious Kubera together with the Rākṣasas.
कैलासपादात्संभूतं पुण्यं शीतजलं शुभम्
From the foot of Kailāsa arises a sacred, auspicious river of cool water.
तस्माद्दिव्यात्प्रभवति नदी मन्दाकिनी शुभा
From that divine source flows the beautiful river Mandākinī.
प्रागुत्तरेम कैलासाद्दिव्यं सर्वौंषधि गिरिम्
To the northeast of Kailāsa is the divine mountain of all medicinal herbs.
चन्द्रप्रभो नाम गिरिः सुशुभ्रो रत्नसन्निभः
There is a mountain named Candraprabha, radiant as the moon, shining like jewels.
तस्माद्दिव्यात्प्रभवति स्वच्छोदा नाम निम्नगा
From that divine mountain flows the clear river called Svacchodā.
तस्मिन् गिरौ निवसति मणिभद्रः सहानुगः
On that mountain dwells Maṇibhadra, accompanied by his followers.
पुण्या मन्दाकिनी चैव नदी स्वच्छोदका च या
The sacred Mandākinī and the river Svacchodā, both with pure waters, are there.
