कुर्याच्च विधिवत्पूजां पुनर्योग्यो भवेन्नरः
By performing worship according to the prescribed method, a man becomes qualified again.
निष्कामो देवतां नित्यं योर्ऽचयेद्भक्तिनिर्भरः
He who worships the deity daily, free from desire and full of devotion,
तामेव चिन्तयन्नास्ते यथाशक्ति मनुं जपन्
Meditating on her alone, he sits, reciting the mantra as best he can.
सदा संनिहिता तस्य सर्वं च कथयेत सा
She is always present for him and tells him everything.
तथानुगच्छेत्सा देवी स्वभक्तं शरणागतम्
Thus, the goddess follows her devotee who has sought refuge.
वत्सं गौरिव यं गौरी धावन्तमनुधावति
Just as Gaurī pursues her calf, so does she pursue the one who runs to her.
श्रीदेवतायां निक्षिप्य सदा तद्गतमानसः
With the mind always absorbed in the blessed Goddess,
अनन्यशरणो गौरीं दृढं सम्प्रार्थ्य रक्षणे
Having no other refuge, one should firmly beseech Gauri for protection.
वरिवस्यातत्परः स्यात्सा एव शरणागतिः
One should be wholly devoted to her worship; that alone is true surrender.
इति स्वरूपं सुधिया समीक्ष्य विषादखेदौ न भजेत्प्रपन्नः
Thus, understanding this nature with clear intellect, the surrendered one should not fall into sorrow or despair.
रक्षिष्यतीति विश्वासो गोप्तृत्ववरणं तथा
The conviction that 'She will protect me' is the acceptance of her as guardian.
न ह्यस्य सदृशं किञ्चिद्भुक्तिमुक्त्योस्तु साधनम्
Indeed, there is no means for enjoyment or liberation equal to this.
आचार्योपासनं शौचं स्थैर्यमात्मविनिग्रहः
Serving the teacher, purity, steadiness, and self-restraint—
असक्तिरनभिष्वङ्गः पुत्रदारगृहादिषु
Detachment and freedom from attachment to children, spouse, home, and the like—
मयि चानन्यभावेन भक्तिख्यभिचारिणी
And unwavering devotion to me, free from any deviation—
एतानि सर्वदा ज्ञानसाधनानि समभ्यसेत्
One should always practice these as means to knowledge.
निर्वैरः सर्वभूतेषु यः स याति परां श्रियम्
He who is free from enmity toward all beings attains supreme prosperity.
शिष्यो ऽपि त्वादृशः प्रोक्तो रहस्याम्नायदेशिकः
A disciple like you is called a teacher of the secret tradition.
याभिर्विरचिताभिस्तु श्रीदेवी संप्रसीदति
By these practices, the blessed Goddess becomes pleased.
परिवृत्य करौ स्पष्टमङ्गुष्ठौ कारयेत्समौ
Turning the hands, one should clearly bring the thumbs together.
संक्षोभिण्याख्यामुद्रां तु कथयाम्यधुना श्रुणु
Now I will explain the gesture called Saṃkṣobhiṇī; listen.
तर्जन्यो दण्डवत्कृत्वा मध्यमोपर्यनामिके
Make the index finger straight like a staff, above the middle and ring fingers.
क्रियते विन्ध्यदर्पारे मुद्रा विद्राविणी तथा
This is the gesture called Vindhyadarpāri and also Vidrāviṇī.
इयमाकर्षिणी मुद्रा त्रैलोक्याकर्षणे क्षमा
This is the Ākarṣiṇī gesture, capable of attracting the three worlds.
परिवर्तक्रमेणैव मध्यमे तदधोगते
In the same sequence of rotation, the middle finger is placed downward.
अनामिके तु सरले तद्बहिस्तर्जनीद्वयम्
The ring finger remains straight, and both index fingers are placed outside.
मुद्रैषोन्मादिनी नाम्ना ख्याता वातापितापन
This gesture is known as Unmadinī by name, which dispels disorders of wind and bile.
तर्जन्यावपि तेनैव क्रमेण विनियोजयेत्
The index fingers too should be applied in the same sequence.
इयं महाङ्कुशा मुद्रा सर्वकार्यार्थसाधिका
This is the great Ankuśa mudrā, effective for accomplishing all purposes.
तर्जनीभ्यां समाक्रान्ते सर्वोर्ध्वमपि मध्यमे
With both index fingers pressed together, the middle finger is raised upward.
