दूरीकृतसुचारित्रां विशालनयनाम्बुजाम्
Her good conduct cast far away, her lotus-eyes wide—
विमूढामिव विक्षुब्धामिव प्लुष्टामिवाद्भुताम्
As if bewildered, as if agitated, as if scorched, as if wondrous—
निलीनामिव निश्चेष्टामिवान्यत्वं गतामिव
As if hidden, as if motionless, as if transformed—
भ्रमन्तीं भावयेन्नारीं योजनानां शतादपि
He should imagine the woman wandering, even from a hundred yojanas away—
चतुःसमुद्रपर्यन्तं ज्वलन्तीं चिन्तयेत्ततः
Then, he should contemplate her blazing, extending to the four oceans—
दृष्ट्वा कर्षयते लोकं दृष्ट्वैव कुरुते वशम्
Seeing, he draws the world in; merely by seeing, he brings it under control.
दृष्ट्वा चातुर्थिकादींश्च ज्वरान्नाशयते क्षणात्
Seeing, he instantly destroys fevers such as the fourth and others.
वाक्स्तंभं वादिनां क्षिप्रं कुरुते नात्र संशयः
He quickly causes speechlessness in disputants—of this there is no doubt.
दक्षिणाभिमुखो वह्नौ दग्ध्वा मारयते रिपून्
Facing south, one burns in fire and destroys enemies.
आरनालस्थितं चक्रं विद्वेषं कुरुते द्विषाम्
A wheel placed in a furnace creates hostility among adversaries.
लंबमानस्तदाकारो उच्चाटनकरं परम्
When suspended in that form, it brings about supreme expulsion.
लिखित्वा धारयंश्चक्रं चातुर्वर्ण्यं वशं नयेत्
By writing and wearing the wheel, one brings all four castes under control.
सौभाग्यमतुलं तस्य स्नानपानान्न संशयः
His fortune becomes incomparable; there is no doubt regarding bathing, drinking, or eating.
ज्वलन्तीं चिन्तयेन्नित्यं सप्ताहात्क्षोभयेन्मुने
By constantly contemplating the blazing form, after seven days, he agitates, O sage.
पूर्वाशाभिमुखो भूत्वा स्तंभयेत्सर्ववादिनः
Facing east, he immobilizes all disputants.
यदा तदा स्ववशगो लोको भवति नान्यथा
Whenever this is done, the world comes under one's control, not otherwise.
यः ससर्वाङ्गनाकर्षवश्यक्षोभकरो भवेत्
He becomes capable of attracting and agitating all women.
अजरामरतां मन्त्री लभते नात्र संशयः
The practitioner attains agelessness and immortality; there is no doubt about this.
गोपनात्सर्वसिद्धिः स्याद्भ्रंश एव प्रकाशनात्
By keeping it secret, all accomplishments are attained; by revealing, only loss results.
देवताशापमाप्नोति न च सिद्धिं स विन्दति
He incurs the curse of the deity and does not obtain accomplishment.
कुर्याच्च विधिवत्पूजां पुनर्योग्यो भवेन्नरः
By performing worship according to the prescribed method, a man becomes qualified again.
निष्कामो देवतां नित्यं योर्ऽचयेद्भक्तिनिर्भरः
He who worships the deity daily, free from desire and full of devotion,
तामेव चिन्तयन्नास्ते यथाशक्ति मनुं जपन्
Meditating on her alone, he sits, reciting the mantra as best he can.
सदा संनिहिता तस्य सर्वं च कथयेत सा
She is always present for him and tells him everything.
तथानुगच्छेत्सा देवी स्वभक्तं शरणागतम्
Thus, the goddess follows her devotee who has sought refuge.
वत्सं गौरिव यं गौरी धावन्तमनुधावति
Just as Gaurī pursues her calf, so does she pursue the one who runs to her.
श्रीदेवतायां निक्षिप्य सदा तद्गतमानसः
With the mind always absorbed in the blessed Goddess,
अनन्यशरणो गौरीं दृढं सम्प्रार्थ्य रक्षणे
Having no other refuge, one should firmly beseech Gauri for protection.
वरिवस्यातत्परः स्यात्सा एव शरणागतिः
One should be wholly devoted to her worship; that alone is true surrender.
इति स्वरूपं सुधिया समीक्ष्य विषादखेदौ न भजेत्प्रपन्नः
Thus, understanding this nature with clear intellect, the surrendered one should not fall into sorrow or despair.
