पातकान्याशु नश्यन्ति किं पुनस्तूपपातकम्
Sins are quickly destroyed; what then of lesser faults?
कुदेहश्च कुभावश्च नास्तिकत्वं लयं व्रजेत्
A bad body, a wicked disposition, and atheism are dissolved.
विविधैर्भक्ष्यभोज्यैश्च पदार्थैः षड्रसान्वितैः
With various foods and dishes, possessing all six tastes,
उपदिश्येति सम्राज्ञी दिव्यमूर्तिस्तिरोदधे
Thus instructed, the queen of the realm, with a divine form, vanished.
देवीमुद्बोध्य कौसल्यां शुभलक्षणलक्षिताम्
The goddess awakened Kausalya, marked by auspicious signs.
तत्समा कर्ण्य सा देवी सन्तोषमभजत्तदा
Hearing that, the goddess was then filled with satisfaction.
अनीकसचिवोपेतः काञ्चीपुरमुपागमत्
Accompanied by his ministers and army, he went to Kanchipuram.
पञ्चतीर्थे ततः स्नात्वा देव्या कौसल्यया नृपः
There, after bathing at the five sacred waters, the king with Kausalya,
प्रीणयित्वा सपत्नीकस्तथा तद्भक्तिपूजकान्
Having pleased his co-wives and also those devoted to her,
प्रदक्षिणत्रयं कृत्वा विनयेन समन्वितः
He performed three circumambulations, filled with humility.
श्रीकामकोष्ठनिलयं महात्रिपुरसुन्दरीम्
He approached Mahatripurasundari, who dwells in the sacred Kamakoshta.
प्रणिपत्य तु साष्टाङ्गं भार्यया सह भक्तिमान्
With devotion, together with his wife, he bowed down fully, touching the ground with eight limbs.
दुर्वासा सशिष्येण पूजार्थं पूर्वकल्पिते
Durvasa, with his disciple, for the purpose of worship, in the previously prepared place,
तत्र स्वगुरुणोक्तं च कृत्वा स्वात्मार्घपूजनम्
There, following the instructions of his own guru, he performed self-offering worship.
तदेवात्रापि संदध्यौ सन्निधौ राजसत्तमः
That very same act he contemplated here as well, in the presence of the best of kings.
दिव्यान्यायतनान्यस्यै दत्त्वा स्तोत्रं चकार ह
Having given her divine shrines, he composed a hymn.
पीतांबरस्फुरितपेशलहेमकाञ्चि केयूरकङ्कणपरिष्कृतबाहुवल्लि
Her arms, graceful as creepers, were adorned with golden armlets, bracelets, and a shimmering yellow garment with a splendid golden girdle.
वक्षोजमण्डलविलासिवलक्षहारि पाशाङ्कुशाङ्गदलसद्भुजशोभिताङ्गि
Her form was radiant with the beauty of her breasts, adorned with a necklace, and her limbs shone with the lotus, noose, goad, and other attributes in her hands.
वामे करे सरसिजं सुबिसं दधाने कारुण्यनिर्झरदपाङ्गयुते महेशि
In her left hand she held a beautiful lotus with a fine stalk, O great goddess, her glance overflowing with streams of compassion.
मन्दस्मितस्फुरणशालिनि मञ्जुनासे नेत्रश्रिया विजितनीलसरोजपत्रे
She was endowed with a gentle, blossoming smile, her face lovely, her eyes surpassing the beauty of blue lotuses.
रत्नानुबद्धतपनीयमहाकिरीटे सर्वाङ्गसुन्दरि समस्तसुरेन्द्रवन्द्ये
She wore a great crown of gold set with jewels, O beauty of all limbs, worshipped by all the lords of the gods.
इन्द्रादिदेवपरिसेवितपादपद्मे सिंहासनेश्वरी परे मयि संनिदध्याः
Her lotus feet were served by Indra and the other gods; may that sovereign goddess, seated on a lion throne, be present for me.
तस्यास्तु दक्षिणे भागे महागौरीं ददर्श ह
To her right side, he beheld Mahāgaurī.
दत्त्वा चास्यै महार्हाणि वासांसि विविधानि च
He offered her garments of great value and various kinds.
ततः प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य निर्गत्य सह भार्यया
Then, having circumambulated her, he departed together with his wife.
तामेव चिन्तयंस्तत्र सप्तरात्रमुवास सः
There, contemplating her alone, he remained for seven nights.
अम्बाभीष्टं प्रदेहीति प्रार्थयामास चेतसा
He prayed in his heart, 'O Mother, grant my desired boon.'
भविष्यन्ति मदंशास्ते चत्वारस्तनया नृप
O king, four sons, portions of myself, will be born to you.
श्रियं प्रणम्य साष्टाङ्गमननन्यशरणः पराम्
Having bowed to Śrī with full prostration, taking refuge in none other, he worshipped the supreme goddess.
अयोध्यां नगरीं प्रापदिन्दुमत्यास्तु नन्दनः
He reached the city of Ayodhyā, the son of Indumatī.
