मण्डलं त्वखिलं कृत्वा निजलोकं हि पालय
Having formed the entire maṇḍala, indeed, protect your own realm.
निक्षिप्य हृदि तां देवीं निजं धाम जगाम सः
Placing that goddess in his heart, he went to his own abode.
साक्षादेवमहालक्ष्मीमिमां विद्धि घटोद्भव
Know this, O Pot-born, as the very Mahālakṣmī herself.
तस्य भुक्तिश्च मुक्तिश्च करस्था नात्र संशयः
For him, enjoyment and liberation are both in his hand—of this there is no doubt.
आदिर्नारायणः श्रीमान्भगवान्भक्तवत्सलः
The beginning is Nārāyaṇa, glorious, the blessed Lord, fond of devotees.
महात्रिपुरसुन्दर्या महात्म्यं समुपादिशत्
He expounded the greatness of Mahātripurasundarī.
रहस्यमन्त्रं संवक्ष्येशृणु तं त्वं समाहितः
I shall now tell you the secret mantra; listen to it attentively.
सदाशिवो न जानाति कथं प्राकृतदेवताः
Even Sadāśiva does not know it—how then could the ordinary deities?
अकर्तुमन्यथा कर्तुं कर्तुमस्या अनुग्रहात्
By her grace, one can do, not do, or do otherwise.
तन्मायामोहितो भूत्वा त्ववशः शवतामगात्
Deluded by her māyā, he became powerless and fell into a corpse-like state.
कश्चिदत्र विशेषो ऽस्ति वक्तव्यांशो ऽपि तं शृणु
There is a certain distinction here, and something further to be spoken; listen to that.
चतुर्णामपि सर्वेषामादि कर्ता सदाशिवः
Sadashiva is the original creator of all four.
भूय एव प्रवक्ष्यामि सावधानमनाः शृणु
I will explain again; listen attentively with focused mind.
कङ्कं विलासमकरोत्कामाक्षीत्यभिविश्रुता
Kanka performed playful acts, renowned as Kamakshi.
एतस्याश्चरितं दिव्यं वद मे वदतां वर
Tell me, O best of speakers, the divine deeds of this one.
तत्तत्कर्मानुरूपं सा प्रदत्ते देहिनां फलम्
She grants results to embodied beings according to their actions.
किञ्चिच्चिन्तयते कश्चित्स्वच्छन्दं विदधात्यसौ
Someone thinks a little; someone acts freely—she does so.
इयमेव महालक्ष्मीः ससर्जाण्डत्रयं पुरा
This very Mahalakshmi once created the three cosmic eggs.
एकस्मादण्डतो जातावंबिकापुरुषोत्तमौ
From one egg were born Ambika and Purushottama.
पार्वत्या परमेशानं सरस्वत्या पितामहम्
Parameshvara from Parvati, and Pitamaha from Sarasvati.
वासुदेवं परित्राणे संहारे च त्रिलोचनम्
Vasudeva for protection, and Trilocana for dissolution.
ब्रह्मलोके च वैकुण्ठे कैलासे च वसंत्यमी
These reside in Brahmaloka, Vaikuntha, and Kailasa.
विहरन्ती महेशस्य पिधानं नेत्रयोर्व्यधात्
While wandering, she made a covering for Mahesha's eyes.
अन्धकारावृतमभूदतेजस्कं समन्ततः
It became enveloped in darkness, devoid of radiance everywhere.
इति कर्त्तव्यतामूढा न प्रजानन्त किञ्चन
Thus, confused about what should be done, they knew nothing.
त्वया पापं कृतं देवि मम नेत्रपिधानतः
O Devi, you committed a sin by covering my eyes.
सर्वं च वैदिकं कर्म त्वया नाशितमंबिके
All Vedic rites have been destroyed by you, O Ambika.
गत्वा काशीं व्रतं तत्र किञ्चित्कालं समाचर
Go to Kashi and perform a vow there for some time.
आराधयैतां नित्यां त्वं सर्वपापहरीं शिवाम्
Worship this eternal, auspicious one who removes all sins.
इत्यादिश्य महादेवस्तत्रैवान्तरधीयत
Having thus instructed, Mahadeva vanished from that place.
