औपम्यरहितोदारनासामणिमनोहरः
Her noble nose-jewel was incomparable and captivating.
ईषदुन्मेषमधुरनीलोत्पलविलोचनः
Her eyes, slightly open, were sweet and blue like lotuses.
अर्द्धेन्दुतुलितो भाले पूर्णेन्दुरुचिराननः
Her forehead was adorned with a mark like a crescent moon, and her face was lovely as the full moon.
मत्तालिमालाविलसदलकाढ्यमुखांबुजः
Her lotus-like face was graced with locks shining amidst a garland of intoxicated bees.
अत्यर्थरत्नखचितमुकुटाञ्चितमस्तकः
Her head was crowned with a diadem richly set with countless gems.
शिवो विष्णुश्च तत्रत्याः समस्ताश्च महाजनाः
There, Śiva, Viṣṇu, and all the great beings of that place were present.
अथ तर्हि महेशानी स्वतन्त्रा प्रविवेश ह
Then, the great goddess, independent, entered there.
दृष्ट्वा भूयो नमस्कृत्य पुनः प्रार्थितवान्विधिः
Having seen her, and bowing again, Brahmā once more made his request.
किञ्चिद्विज्ञापयाम्यद्य शृणु तत्कृपया मम
Today I wish to ask you something; kindly listen to me with compassion.
कर्तव्यो जगतामृद्धसेवायै च दिवौकसाम्
A service must be performed for the prosperity of the worlds and the gods.
तां दृष्ट्वा भक्तितो नत्वा प्रयान्तु परमां गतिम्
Seeing her, let them bow with devotion and attain the highest state.
विससर्ज च सर्वांस्तान्स्वनिकेतनिवृत्तये
He then dismissed them all to return to their own abodes.
तां नमस्कृत्य ते सर्वे ततो जगमुर्यथागतम्
Having bowed to her, they all departed as they had come.
आराध्य वैदिकैः स्तोत्रैः साष्टाङ्गं प्रणनाम सः
He worshipped her with Vedic hymns and offered full prostration.
अथाकाशगिरा देवी ब्रह्माणमिदमब्रवीत्
Then the goddess spoke to Brahma with a voice from the sky.
प्रतिसंवत्सरं तत्र सेवां कुरुदृढाशय
Perform devoted service there every year with firm resolve.
श्रीकामगिरिपीठं तु साक्षाच्छ्रीपुरमध्यगम्
The seat of Śrīkāmagiri is indeed situated in the very center of Śrīpura.
वामभागे वृतं लक्ष्यं विष्णुनान्यत्र सेविनम्
On the left side, the marked place was occupied by Viṣṇu, elsewhere by the worshipper.
अदृश्यमूर्तिमव्यक्तमादधार यथा विधि
He established the invisible, unmanifest form according to the prescribed rule.
अर्चिष्मद्भिरप्रधृष्यैर्ल्लोकानामभिवृद्धये
With radiant, invincible beings, for the increase of the worlds.
मण्डलं त्वखिलं कृत्वा निजलोकं हि पालय
Having formed the entire maṇḍala, indeed, protect your own realm.
निक्षिप्य हृदि तां देवीं निजं धाम जगाम सः
Placing that goddess in his heart, he went to his own abode.
साक्षादेवमहालक्ष्मीमिमां विद्धि घटोद्भव
Know this, O Pot-born, as the very Mahālakṣmī herself.
तस्य भुक्तिश्च मुक्तिश्च करस्था नात्र संशयः
For him, enjoyment and liberation are both in his hand—of this there is no doubt.
आदिर्नारायणः श्रीमान्भगवान्भक्तवत्सलः
The beginning is Nārāyaṇa, glorious, the blessed Lord, fond of devotees.
महात्रिपुरसुन्दर्या महात्म्यं समुपादिशत्
He expounded the greatness of Mahātripurasundarī.
रहस्यमन्त्रं संवक्ष्येशृणु तं त्वं समाहितः
I shall now tell you the secret mantra; listen to it attentively.
सदाशिवो न जानाति कथं प्राकृतदेवताः
Even Sadāśiva does not know it—how then could the ordinary deities?
अकर्तुमन्यथा कर्तुं कर्तुमस्या अनुग्रहात्
By her grace, one can do, not do, or do otherwise.
तन्मायामोहितो भूत्वा त्ववशः शवतामगात्
Deluded by her māyā, he became powerless and fell into a corpse-like state.
