तिस्रः कोट्योर्ऽधकोटी च या यास्तीर् थाधिदेवताः
The presiding deities of each of the three crores and half a crore of sacred fords,
श्रीदेवीमुपतस्थाते वीजयन्त्यौ यथोचितम्
Approached the glorious Goddess, each in proper order, victorious.
आदिश्रीनयनोत्पन्ने ते उभे भारतीश्रियौ
When the primordial auspicious eyes arose, both Bharati and Shri appeared.
तदुच्चारणमात्रेण श्रीदेवी शं प्रयच्छति
By the mere utterance of that, the glorious Goddess bestows auspiciousness.
अथ सा जगदीशानी वेदवेदाङ्गपारगे
Then that Lady of the Universe, who has mastered the Vedas and Vedangas,
पश्यतां सर्वदेवानां विधातुर्मुखमाविशत्
In the sight of all the gods, entered the mouth of the Creator.
तदाज्ञां शिरसा धृत्वा रमा विष्णुश्च भक्तितः
Accepting her command with bowed heads, Lakshmi and Vishnu, with devotion,
प्रार्थयामासतुर्भूयस्तदावरणदेवताम्
Again prayed to that presiding deity of the enclosure.
तदावरणदेवत्वं प्राप्तौ पद्माच्युतौ तदा
Then Padma and Acyuta attained the status of presiding deities of the enclosure.
तत्र यातो महागौर्याः प्रतिबिंबो मनोहरः
There appeared a charming reflection of Mahagauri.
तरुणारुणराजाभसैन्दर्यचरणद्वयः
Her two feet were as beautiful as the hue of young crimson dawn.
विद्युदुल्लासितस्वानमनोज्ञमणिमेखलः
Her girdle of delightful jewels shone with the brilliance of lightning.
मुक्तावैदूर्यमाणिक्य निबद्धवरबन्धनः
Her waistband was adorned with pearls, beryl, and rubies.
जाह्नवीसरिदावर्तशोभिनाभीविभूषितः
Her navel was adorned with the beauty of the whirling currents of the Jahnavi river.
आमुक्तमुक्तालङ्कारभासुरस्तनकुञ्चुकः
Her breast-band shone, adorned with ornaments of pearls both strung and unstrung.
माणिक्यशकलाबद्धमुद्रिकाभिरलङ्कृतः
She was embellished with rings set with fragments of rubies.
आभात्याप्रपदीनस्रग्दिव्याकल्पकदंबकैः
She radiated with garlands for her feet and divine clusters of ornaments.
तप्तहाटकसंकॢप्तरत्नग्रीबोपशोभितः
Her neck was splendid with jewels set in refined, molten gold.
पालीवतंसमाणिक्यताटङ्कपरिभूषितः
She was adorned with earrings of rubies and a crest-jewel like a cluster of lotuses.
दाडिमीफलबीजाभदन्तपङ्क्तिविराजितः
Her row of teeth shone like the seeds of a pomegranate fruit.
औपम्यरहितोदारनासामणिमनोहरः
Her noble nose-jewel was incomparable and captivating.
ईषदुन्मेषमधुरनीलोत्पलविलोचनः
Her eyes, slightly open, were sweet and blue like lotuses.
अर्द्धेन्दुतुलितो भाले पूर्णेन्दुरुचिराननः
Her forehead was adorned with a mark like a crescent moon, and her face was lovely as the full moon.
मत्तालिमालाविलसदलकाढ्यमुखांबुजः
Her lotus-like face was graced with locks shining amidst a garland of intoxicated bees.
अत्यर्थरत्नखचितमुकुटाञ्चितमस्तकः
Her head was crowned with a diadem richly set with countless gems.
शिवो विष्णुश्च तत्रत्याः समस्ताश्च महाजनाः
There, Śiva, Viṣṇu, and all the great beings of that place were present.
अथ तर्हि महेशानी स्वतन्त्रा प्रविवेश ह
Then, the great goddess, independent, entered there.
दृष्ट्वा भूयो नमस्कृत्य पुनः प्रार्थितवान्विधिः
Having seen her, and bowing again, Brahmā once more made his request.
किञ्चिद्विज्ञापयाम्यद्य शृणु तत्कृपया मम
Today I wish to ask you something; kindly listen to me with compassion.
कर्तव्यो जगतामृद्धसेवायै च दिवौकसाम्
A service must be performed for the prosperity of the worlds and the gods.
