तन्नामकीर्तय प्राज्ञ येन मे संशयच्छिदा
O wise one, recite that name by which my doubts are dispelled.
महाकालः सर्वलोकभक्षकः श्यामविग्रहः
Mahākāla, devourer of all worlds, with a dark form.
ब्रह्माण्डचषके पूर्णं पिबन्विश्वरसायनम्
Drinking the essence of the universe, filling the cup of the Brahmāṇḍa.
सिंहासने समासीनः कल्पान्ते कलनात्मके
Seated upon a throne at the end of the kalpa, embodying calculation.
कालमृत्युप्रमुख्यैश्च किङ्करैरपि सेवितः
He is served even by attendants headed by Time and Death.
विश्वं कलयतः कृत्स्नं प्रथमे ऽध्वनि वासिनौ
He contemplates the entire universe upon the first path, dwelling therein.
चतुरावरणोपेतं मध्ये बिन्दुमनोहरम्
Adorned with four enclosures, in the center is a charming bindu.
अष्टारपङ्कजं चैवं महाकालस्तु मध्यगः
There is an eight-petaled lotus, and in its midst resides Mahākāla.
एतास्तिस्रो महादेव्यो महाकालस्य शक्तयः
These three great goddesses are the powers of Mahākāla.
प्राह्णापराह्णमध्याह्नाः पञ्च कालस्य शक्तयः
Morning, afternoon, and midday are the five powers of Time.
दिनमिश्रा तमिस्रा च ज्योत्स्नी चैव तु पक्षिणी
Day, twilight, and moonlight, as well as Pakṣiṇī.
राका चानुमतिश्चैव तथैवामावस्यिका पुनः
Rākā and Anumati, and likewise Amāvasyikā again.
एता षोडशमात्रस्थाः शक्तयः षोडश स्मृताः
These powers, established in sixteen measures, are known as sixteen.
मुहुर्ताः कुतपाहोरा शुक्लपक्षस्तथैव च
The muhūrtas, kutapas, hours, and the bright fortnight likewise.
संवत्सरा च परिवत्सरेडावत्सरापि च
The year, parivatsara, edāvatsara, and also vatsara.
इद्वत्सरा ततश्चेन्दुवत्सरावत्सरे ऽपि च
Idvatsara, then Induvatsara, and Avatsara as well.
एतास्तु शक्तयो नागपत्रांभोरुहसंस्थिताः
These powers are established upon the lotus leaves of Nāga.
द्वारपालकतां प्राप्तं कालच क्रस्य भास्वतः
They have attained the role of gatekeepers of the radiant Time-wheel.
दधानाः श्यामलाकाराः सर्वाः कालस्य योषितः
Bearing dark forms, all these women belong to Time.
निषेवन्ते महाकालं कालचक्रासनस्थितम्
They serve Mahākāla, who is seated upon the throne of the Time-wheel.
वसन्तर्तुर्महातेजा ललिताप्रियकिङ्करः
Spring, of great brilliance, is a beloved attendant of Lalitā.
पुष्पायुधः पुष्पभूषः पुष्पच्छत्रेण शोभितः
He is armed with flowers, adorned with flowers, and beautified by a floral parasol.
प्रसूनमदिरामत्ते प्रसूनशरलालसे
Intoxicated by the fragrance of flowers, delighting in the arrows of flowers.
ललिताकिङ्करो नित्यं तस्यास्त्वाज्ञाप्रवर्तकः
He is always the playful servant, ever acting according to her command.
हरिचन्दनवाटी तु मुने वर्षर्तुना स्थिता
O sage, the grove of divine sandalwood stands during the rainy season.
वज्राट्टहासमुखरो मत्तजीमूतवाहनः
Thunderous with laughter like a diamond, bearing the intoxicated clouds.
ललितापूजनध्यानजपस्तोत्रपरायणः
He is devoted to worship, meditation, recitation, and praise of Lalita.
नभःश्रीश्च नभस्यश्रीः स्वरस्वारस्वमालिनी
The splendor of the sky, and the garland of celestial sounds, belong to the heavens.
वर्षयन्ती चिबुणिका वारिधारा च शक्तयः
The rain-bringing clouds and streams of water are their powers.
ताभिः समं स वर्षर्तुः शक्तिभिः परमेश्वरीम्
Together with those powers of the rainy season, he worships the Supreme Lady.
