शालाग्रस्य तु गव्यूतेर्नद्धवातायनं पृथक्
At the head of each hall, apart from the cattle-pen, is a barred window.
द्वारेद्वारे कपाटे द्वे गव्यूत्यर्धप्रविस्तरे
At each gate are two doors, each half the width of the cattle-pen.
उभयोरर्गला चेत्थमर्धक्रोशसमायता
The two bars are thus placed at a distance equal to half a krosha between them.
गोपुरस्य तु संस्थानं कथये कुंभसंभव
Now I shall describe to you, O one born from the pot, the structure of the gateway tower.
पार्श्वद्वये योजने द्वे द्वे समादाय निर्मिते
On both sides, two yojanas each are taken and constructed.
पार्श्वद्वयं योजने द्वे मध्ये शालस्य योजनम्
On both sides, two yojanas, and in the middle, a yojana for the hall.
पार्श्वद्वयेन सार्धेन क्रोशयुग्मेन संयुतम्
With one and a half on both sides, joined with a pair of kroshas.
एवं प्राकारतस्तत्र गोपुरं रचितं मुने
Thus, O sage, the gateway tower is constructed there along the wall.
उपर्युपरि वेष्टस्य ह्रास एव प्रकीर्त्यते
At each higher level of the tower, a reduction in size is prescribed.
योजनेयोजने द्वारं सकपाटं मनोहरम्
At every yojana, a beautiful door with panels is set.
गोपुराग्रस्य निस्तारो योजनं हि समाश्रितः
The projection at the top of the gateway tower extends for one yojana.
मुकुटस्य तु विस्तारः क्रोशमानो घटोद्भव
The width of the crown, O one born from a pot, is measured as one krosha.
मुकुटस्यान्तरे क्षोणी क्रोशार्धेन च संमिता
Within the crown, the earth is measured as half a krosha.
दक्षोत्तरस्तु मुकुटाः पश्चिमद्वारगोपुरे
The crowns are to the south and north on the western gateway tower.
पश्चिमद्वारवत्पूर्वद्वारे मुकुटकल्पना
Just as at the western gate, the arrangement of crowns is made at the eastern gate.
अन्तरे कांस्यशालस्य पूर्ववद्गोपुरो ऽन्वितः
Within the bronze hall, as before, there is a gateway tower.
कांस्यशालो ऽपि पूर्वादिदिक्षु द्वारसमन्विन्तः
The bronze hall also has doors in the eastern and other directions.
कालायसस्य कांस्यस्य योंऽतर्देशः समन्ततः
The intermediate space between the iron and bronze is all around.
उद्भिज्जाद्यं यावदस्ति तत्सर्वं तत्र वर्तते
Whatever arises from the earth and similar things, all that exists there.
सदापल्लवशोभाढ्याः सदा सौरभसंकुलाः
Always adorned with fresh foliage, always filled with fragrance.
शिंशपाश्च शिरीषाश्च देवदारुनमेरवः
There are śiṃśapā, śirīṣa, devadāru, and meru trees.
एलालवङ्गास्तक्कोलास्तथा कर्पूरशाखिनः
There are elā, lavaṅga, takkola, and karpūra trees.
काञ्चनाराश्च लकुचाः पनसा हिङ्गुलास्तथा
There are kāñcanāra, lakuca, panasa, and hiṅgula trees.
गणिकाश्च कुरण्टाश्च बन्धुजीवाश्च दाडिमाः
There are gaṇikā, kuraṇṭa, bandhujīva, and dāḍima trees.
यूथिकास्तालपर्ण्यश्च तुलस्यश्च सदाफलाः
There are yūthikā, tālaparṇī, tulasī, and sadāphala trees.
इक्षवः क्षीरिणश्चैव श्लेष्मान्तकविभीतकाः
There are ikṣava, kṣīriṇa, śleṣmāntaka, and vibhītaka trees.
भल्लातकाश्च खदिराः शाखोटाश्चन्दनद्रुमाः
There are bhallātaka, khadira, śākhoṭa, and candana trees.
उदुंबरार्जुनाश्वत्थाः शमीवृक्षा ध्रुवाद्रुमाः
There are uduṃbara, arjuna, aśvattha, śamī, and dhruva trees.
कपित्थास्तिन्तिणी चैवेत्येवमाध्याः सहस्रशः
There are kapittha and tintiṇī trees, and many others in thousands.
नानावृक्षमहोत्सेधा वर्तन्ते वरशाखिनः
There exist splendid trees of various kinds and great height.
