अर्णवास्त्रं महादीरो भण्डदैत्यो रणे ऽसृजत्
The mighty Bhaṇḍa Daitya released the Arṇavāstra in the fight.
आदिकूर्मः समुत्पन्नो योजनायतविस्तरः
The primordial tortoise appeared, measuring a yojana in length and breadth.
शक्तयो हर्षमापन्नाः सागरास्त्रभयं जहुः
The powers, filled with joy, cast off the fear of the ocean-weapon.
हैरण्याक्षं महास्त्रं तु विजहौ दुष्टदानवः
The wicked Dānava released the great weapon of Hiraṇyākṣa.
इतस्ततः प्रचलिते शिथिले रणकर्मणि
As the battle wavered here and there and the fighting slackened,
महावराहः समभूच्छ्वेतः कैलाससंनिभः
The great Boar appeared, white, resembling Mount Kailāsa.
कोटिशस्ते हिरण्याक्षा मर्द्यमानाः क्षयं गताः
Countless hosts of Hiraṇyākṣa, being crushed, perished.
तस्य भ्रुकुटितो जाता हिरण्याः कोटिसंख्यकाः
From his frown arose golden beings, numbering in the millions.
अमर्दयच्चक्तिसैन्यं प्रह्लादं चाप्यमर्दयन्
He did not harm the army of Śakti nor did he harm Prahlāda.
स एव बालकोभूत्वा हिरण्यपरिपीडितः
He himself, becoming a child, was oppressed by Hiraṇya.
अथ शक्त्या नन्दरूपं प्रह्लादं परिरक्षितुम्
Then, by the power of Śakti, to protect Prahlāda in the form of Nanda,
तस्माद् धूतसटाजालः प्रज्वलल्लोचनत्रयः
From him, with matted locks shaken, and three blazing eyes,
नखायुधः कालरुद्ररूपी घोराट्टहासवान्
Armed with claw-weapons, in the form of Rudra as Death, with a terrible, roaring laugh,
हिरण्यकशिपून्सर्वान्भण्डभ्रुकुटिसंभवान्
All the sons of Hiraṇyakaśipu, born from the frown of Bhaṇḍa,
अमुञ्चल्ललिता देवी प्रतिभण्डमहासुरम्
The gracious Goddess released the mighty demon Pratibhaṇḍa.
महाराज्ञीदक्षहस्तकनिष्ठाग्रान्महौजसः
From the little finger of the right hand of the great queen, of immense energy,
बलीन्द्रानस्त्रसंभूतान्बध्नन्तः पाशबन्धनैः
The lords of the strong, born from weapons, were bound with nooses of restraint.
महाकाया महोत्साहास्तदस्त्रं समनाशयन्
Great-bodied and of great enthusiasm, they neutralized that weapon.
तस्मात्सहस्रशोजाताः सहस्रार्जुनकोटयः
From that, thousands were born—millions of Sahasrārjunas.
प्रज्वलन्भार्गवो रामः सक्रोधः सिंहनादवान्
Blazing Bhārgava Rāma, filled with wrath, roared like a lion.
सहस्रार्जुनसंख्यातान्क्षणादेव व्यनाशयन्
Those equal in number to Sahasrārjuna, he destroyed in a moment.
तस्माद्धुङ्कारतो जातश्चन्द्रहासकृपाणवान्
From his shout of 'hūṅ', one bearing the sword Candrahāsa was born.
गृहीत्वा शक्तिसैन्यं तदतिदूरममर्दयत्
Having taken the army of weapons, he crushed it at a great distance.
कोदण्डरामः समभूल्लक्ष्मणेन समन्वितः
Rama, wielder of the bow, stood together with Lakshmana.
नीलोत्पलदलश्यामो धनुर्विस्फारयन्मुहुः
Dark as a blue lotus petal, he repeatedly drew his bow.
लक्ष्मणो मेघनादं च महावीरमनाशयत्
Lakshmana destroyed Meghanada, the mighty hero.
तस्मादनेकशो जाताः कपयः पिङ्गलोचनाः
From him arose many monkeys with tawny eyes.
व्यनाशयच्छक्तिसैन्यं क्रूरक्रेङ्कारकारिणः
They destroyed the army of weapons, uttering fierce, harsh cries.
आविर्बभूव तालाङ्कः क्रोधमध्यारुणेक्षणः
Tala, marked with a palm, appeared, his eyes red with wrath.
द्विविदास्त्रसमुद्भूतान्कपीन्सर्न्वान्व्यनाशयन्
Dvivid destroyed the monkeys born from weapons, along with their followers.
