ववष शरजालेन महता ललितेश्वरीम्
Lalitā, the sovereign, was enveloped by a vast shower of arrows.
महातरणिबाणेन तन्नुनोद महेश्वरी
Maheśvarī repelled them with a most powerful arrow.
गायत्र्यस्त्रं तस्य नुत्यै ससर्ज जगदंबिका
Jagadambikā released the Gāyatrī missile for their destruction.
चाक्षुष्मतमहास्त्रेण शमयायास तत्प्रसूः
She subdued their offspring with the mighty Cākṣuṣmat missile.
विश्वावसोरथास्त्रेण तस्य दर्पमपाकरोत्
With the Viśvāvasu missile, she removed their arrogance.
महामृत्युञ्जयास्त्रेण नाशयामास तद्बलम्
She destroyed their strength with the great Mṛtyuñjaya missile.
धारणास्त्रेण चक्रेशी तद्बलं समनाशयत्
With the Dhāraṇā missile, the ruler of the wheels completely annihilated their force.
अभयङ्करमैन्द्रास्त्रं मुमुचे जगदंबिका
Jagadambikā released the Indra missile, which bestows fearlessness.
राजयक्ष्मादयो रोगास्ततो ऽभूवन्सहस्रशः
Then diseases such as royal consumption arose by the thousands.
नामत्रयमहामन्त्रमहास्त्रं सा मुमोच ह
She released the great missile of the three-name mantra.
हुङ्कारमात्रतो दग्ध्वारोगांस्ताननयन्मुदम्
With a single utterance of 'huṅ', she burned up those diseases, bringing joy.
विधातुं त्रिषु लोकेषु नियुक्ताः स्वपदं ययुः
Appointed to act in the three worlds, they returned to their own places.
कालसंकर्षणीरूपमस्त्रं राज्ञी व्यमुञ्चत
The queen released the missile in the form of Kālasaṃkarṣaṇī.
ततः सहस्रशो जाता महाकाया महाबलाः
Then, thousands of beings arose, vast in body and immense in strength.
धूम्रलोचनदैत्यश्च चण्डमुण्डादयो ऽसुराः
Dhūmralocana the Daitya, Caṇḍa, Muṇḍa, and other Asuras appeared.
शुम्भश्चैव निशुम्भश्च कालकेया महाबलाः
Śumbha, Niśumbha, and the powerful Kālakeyas also emerged.
ते सर्वे दानवश्रेष्ठाः कठोरैः शस्त्रमण्डलैः
All those foremost Dānavas, with their fierce circles of weapons,
हाहेति क्रन्दमानाश्चशक्तयो दैत्यमर्दिताः
Crying out 'Ha! Ha!' and wailing, their powers were crushed by the Daitya-slayer.
अथ देवी भृशं क्रुद्धा रुषाट्टहासमातनोत्
Then the Goddess, greatly enraged, let out a roaring laugh in her wrath.
समस्तदेवतेजोभिर्निर्मिता विश्वरूपिणी
Formed from the combined energies of all the gods, she appeared as the one of universal form.
शङ्खं वरुणदत्तश्च शक्तिं दत्तां हविर्भुजा
She held the conch given by Varuṇa, and the spear bestowed by Havyavāhana.
वज्रिदत्तं च कुलिशं चषकन्धनदार्पितम्

She carried the water-pot given by Brahmā, and the bell presented by Airāvata.
विश्वकर्मप्रदत्तानि भूषणानि च बिभ्रती
She adorned herself with ornaments bestowed by Viśvakarman.
आयुधानि समस्तानि दीपयन्ति महोदयैः
All her weapons shone with great brilliance and majesty.
सिंहवाहनमारुह्य युद्धं नारायणीव्यधात्
Mounting her lion vehicle, Nārāyaṇī engaged in battle.
चण्डिकासप्तशत्यां तु यथा कर्म पुराकरोत्
Just as she had acted before in the Caṇḍikā Saptashatī, she performed her deeds.
तत्कृत्वा दुष्करं कर्म ललितां प्रणनाम सा
Having accomplished that difficult task, she bowed to Lalitā.
महावाग्वा दिनी नाम ससर्जास्त्रं जगत्प्रसूः
The mother of the world, named Mahāvāgvadinī, created a weapon.
ससर्ज तत्र समरे दुर्मदो भण्डदानवः
There in the battle, the arrogant Bhaṇḍa Dānava created it.
