मोदकस्यापि मोदाकं षष्ठं वर्षं प्रकीर्त्तितम्
Of Modāka, Modāka is known as the sixth region.
तेषां तु नामभिस्तानि सप्त वर्षाणि तत्र वै
There, those seven regions are named after them.
कुशलो मनोनुगस्छोष्णः पावनश्चान्धकारकः
Kuśala, Manonuga, Śoṣṇa, Pāvana, and Andhakāraka.
तेषां स्वनामभिर्देशाः क्रैञ्चद्वीपाश्रयाः शुभाः
Their lands, auspicious and belonging to Krauñca Island, are named after them.
देशो मनोनुगस्यापि मानोनुगे इते स्मृतः
A region that follows the mind is called 'manonuga', and one that follows pride is called 'mānonuga'.
अन्धकारस्य देशस्तु आन्धकारः प्रकीर्त्तितः
The region of darkness is known as 'Āndhakāra'.
एते जनपदाः सप्त क्रैञ्चद्वीपे तु भास्वराः
These are the seven illustrious countries on the Krauncha continent.
उद्भिज्जो वेणुमांश्चैव वैरथो लवणो धृतिः
Udbhijja, Veṇumāna, Vairatha, Lavaṇa, and Dhṛti are named.
उद्भिज्जं प्रथमं वर्षं द्वितीयं वेणुमण्डलम्
Udbhijja is the first region, and Veṇumaṇḍala is the second.
पञ्चमं धृतिमद्वर्षं षष्ठं वर्षं प्रभाकरम्
Dhṛtimat is the fifth region, and Prabhākara is the sixth.
तेषां देशाः कशद्वीपे तत्सनामान एव च
Their regions in Kaśa continent bear the same names.
शाल्मलस्येश्वराः सप्त सुतास्ते च वपुष्मतः
The seven sons of Vapuṣmat are the rulers of Śālmaladvīpa.
वैद्युतो मानसश्चापि सुप्रभः सप्तमस्तथा
Vaidyuta, Mānasa, and Suprabha are also among the seven.
जीमूतस्यापि जीमूतो रोहितस्यापि रोहितः
Jīmūta is the son of Jīmūta, and Rohita is the son of Rohita.
सुप्रभः सुप्रभस्यापि सप्तैते देशपालकाः
Suprabha is the son of Suprabha; these seven are the guardians of the regions.
सप्त मेधातिथे पुत्राः प्लक्षद्वीपेश्वरा नृपाः
The seven sons of Medhātithi are the kings of Plakṣadvīpa.
सुखोदयस्तृतीयस्तु चतुर्थो नन्द उच्यते
Sukhodaya is the third, and the fourth is called Nanda.
ध्रुवस्तु सप्तमो ज्ञेयः पुत्रा मेधातिथेः स्मृताः
Dhruva is known as the seventh; these are remembered as the sons of Medhātithi.
तस्माच्छान्तभयं चैव शिशिरं च सुखोदयम्
Therefore, Śāntabhaya, Śiśira, and Sukhodaya are included.
तानि तेषां समानानि सप्त वर्षाणि भागशः
These are their seven equal regions, each with its own portion.
मेधा तिथेस्तु पुत्रैस्तैः प्लक्षद्वीपेश्वरैर्नृबैः
By those sons of Medhātithi, the kings of Plakṣadvīpa—
प्लक्षद्वीपादिषु त्वेषु शाकद्वीपान्तिकेषु वै
In these, beginning with Plakṣadvīpa and near Śākadvīpa—
सुखमायुश्च रूपं च बलं धर्मश्च नित्यशः
Happiness, long life, beauty, strength, and righteousness are ever-present.
प्रक्षद्वीपः परिष्क्रान्तो जंबूद्वीपं निबोधत
Having described the Prakṣa continent, now listen about Jambūdvīpa.
प्रियव्रतो ऽभ्य षिञ्चत्तं जंबूद्वीपेश्वरं नृपम्
Priyavrata anointed him, the king of Jambūdvīpa.
ज्येष्ठो नाभिरिति ख्यातस्तस्य किंपुरुषो ऽनुजः
His eldest son, known as Nābhi, had a younger brother named Kiṃpuruṣa.
रम्यस्तु पञ्चमः पुत्रो हिरण्वान् षष्ठ उच्यते
Ramyaka was the fifth son, and Hiraṇvān is said to be the sixth.
नवमः केतुमालश्च तेषां देशान्निबोधत
Ketumāla was the ninth; now hear of their regions.
हेमकूटं तु यद्वर्षं ददौ किपुरुषाय तत्
The region called Hemakūṭa was given to Kiṃpuruṣa.
मध्यमं यत्सुमेरोस्तु ददौ स तदिलावृतम्
The central part of Sumeru was given to Ilāvṛta.
